What NOT To Do In A Fight / Wednesday, Period III / Week 4

Once again, the Danger Shop was a gym, this time with mats covering the floor.

"Some fights have rules, such as jousting or a official duel," Ghanima said once everyone had arrived. "Real fights don't. But a lot of people will still fight as though there are rules and that combat can somehow be civilized." Ghanima smiled sweetly. "We call those people 'suckers.'"

"You and an opponent could say no hair-pulling, or no knives, or no back-up. That the fight is to the first touch or first blood and no farther. But the second that your opponent decides winning is more important than the rules, it's no longer a spar or a duel, but a fight. If you want to win -- if you want to survive a fight -- you must always assume that can happen, and sometimes, it must be you that breaks the 'rules' of combat."

"Even those of you prone to non-violence whenever possible can utilize this," she continued. "Throw sand in someone's eyes. Yell 'look over there,' and pull down their pants or throw a coat over their head and run away. Being practical and breaking the unwritten rules of 'honorable' combat is sometimes the best way to get out of a fight before the violence really begins."

Fighting dirty? Why that would be unsportsmanlike! And clearly Rhys in no way advocated... scratch that, he was taking notes. He was taking a lot of notes.
