Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

It may have just been a coincidence that the weather was sunny now that Fandom was back home in Maryland, but no one was going to complain.

Okay, maybe they were going to complain a little since the sun meant it was in the high 90s ~~32C~~ outside, but that just meant there was a good excuse for all the ice cream on the buffet table of picnic food.

There was the usual second table set up as well, stacked with nametags and lists to help folks locate their siblings and roommates. Once the chairs were set up and the tables were glittered, it was time to welcome the new folks and start a new semester!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Shiemi had been hovering on the edges of the picnic, trying to get up the nerve to go in further and find the 'Big Sibling' her letter said she was supposed to meet. Another deep breath and she walked into the part where there were the fewest people

"Uhm," she hesitantly approached, clutching at the fabric of her Kimono as if squeezing courage from it. "Excuse me? Wh... where do we go to meet a 'Big Sibling'?"

"Uh, around here by the lists and stuff is usually good," Blue told her. "I'm waiting for my little sibling right now." And if Shiemi knew her big sibling's name and could read English, Blue was wearing a nametag, so that might be helpful.

Shiemi could! Her grandmother had taught her lots of English gardening terms, plant names and uses, and exorcist items... But she had learned more over time.

But staying out of the crowds had meant she'd totally missed the fact that people had nametags on.

"Ah! You're one of the Big Siblings? Do - Do you know mine? Her name..." Shiemi pulled a letter from the folds of her Kimono sleeve. "is Blue? Sgt Blue. I... I guess I don't know her full name..." Oh no.

...okay, 'Sergeant Blue' was a new twist on people having trouble with her name that, in retrospect, Blue probably should have seen coming. Most people got hung up on the 'your name is a color' thing, though, and didn't get to that one.

"No, that's me!" Blue exclaimed. "Blue Sargent, that's my name." She pointed to her nametag. "See?"

This was the point where she would usually confirm that Shiemi was Shiemi, but she was pretty sure she was going to butcher it so she was hoping to hear Shiemi say her name first.

Shiemi blinked at her a few times and tilted her head slightly. "Blue Sargent?" she said slowly, as if trying to place the name...

Then she stood up straight. "Ah! Juniper-san!"

"Excuse me?" If this girl's name was Juniper San, she was definitely not Blue's little sibling, so there went that theory.

"Your name!" Shiemi beamed happily at her. "It's another name for Chinese juniper! (http://www.newlifenursery1.net/products/blue-sargent-spreading-juniper)"

If this girl was named after a plant, she HAD to be nice!

"You didn't know? Blue Sargent." She raised a finger. "A beautiful soft looking ground cover that's really hardy and stays green all year long and has pretty blue berries."

"Uh, no, I didn't know that," Blue admitted. She'd have to ask Maura if she'd done that on purpose, if she ever found her. "Most people don't really get past the 'Blue' part...and your name is?"

"Aaaaah! How rude of me! I'm sorry!" Shiemi quickly bowed in greeting and apology. "Moriyama Shiemi! I mean, Shiemi Moriyama. Nice to meet you. Please be kind to me."

"Whoa, whoa, hey, it's okay!" Blue assured her. "You're my little sibling! Of course I'm going to be kind to you! Welcome to Fandom High!"

"Th-thank you!" Shiemi said, then lifted her head. "I'm sorry. I'm still not very good around lots of people. That's why I came here."
