Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

It may have just been a coincidence that the weather was sunny now that Fandom was back home in Maryland, but no one was going to complain.

Okay, maybe they were going to complain a little since the sun meant it was in the high 90s 32C outside, but that just meant there was a good excuse for all the ice cream on the buffet table of picnic food.

There was the usual second table set up as well, stacked with nametags and lists to help folks locate their siblings and roommates. Once the chairs were set up and the tables were glittered, it was time to welcome the new folks and start a new semester!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Well, looks like we've got a new teacher who might be able to help," Electroclash replied with a drawl as she shook his hand. "At least we're assuming he's a teacher."

"If you're talking about the guy who licked my dog earlier, yeah, he's a new teacher," Kanan confirmed. He re-claimed his hand and gestured with it. "About this tall, floppy ears, covered in yellow fur? I'm his teaching buddy."

And Mr. Peanutbutter was not his apprentice, Obi-Wan.

She probably shouldn't have snickered.

But she didn't stop herself. "I'm sorry," she said, not sounding sorry at all, "did you just say he licked your dog?"

Kanan just grinned faintly. A least Electroclash here could find the humor in it.

"Yeah, that's pretty much what I said," Kanan agreed. "Stance licked his hand, he licked Stance."

So, this semester was going to be an interesting one.

Hey, he'd just made this whole 'coming to the stupid picnic' thing worth it, as far as she was concerned.

"Oh that is brilliant," she said. "That is classic. This fucking island, I swear."

"This island," Kanan agreed, chuckling and shaking his head a little. "Just when I think I'm getting a feel for this place, somebody licks my karking dog."

He wasn't even surprised, so much as slightly scandalized.

Electroclash raised an eyebrow, just slightly. "So you another one of our ever-expanding brood of space boys?"

Well, that got Kanan to raise his eyebrow a little, in turn.

"It was the 'kark' that gave it away, wasn't it?"

Not that 'space boy' was that much of a secret. He did go around telling people that he was a pirate and occasional smuggler, after all.

"Know someone who says that a fair bit."

Kanan's own smirk was also just the slightest bit crooked, then, as he looked over the crowd, contemplating which of the people out there were most likely to drop a 'kark' from time to time.

... He dismissed Obi-Wan out of hand.

"It is a pretty flexible word," he shared, not letting his gaze rest for long on any one person. "I don't suppose they're here, are they?"

But she was too much a jerk by nature to just blurt out who it was.

Kanan gave an amused little snort, and then he grinned back at her. Hey, jerks by nature more or less spoke his language. He was okay with this.

"How nicely am I going to have to ask if I want to find out? Or is that one of those things I'm going to need to figure out on my own?"

"Depends on how nicely you're willing to ask, really," Electroclash mused with a hint of a drawl, tilting her head just a bit.

Hey, she wasn't hellbent on guarding Atton's identity, but she wasn't minding this interaction so why not have fun with it?

But really, that was a promising sort of drawl. Kanan raised his eyebrows just the faintest bit, and while his smile wasn't completely shameless, it was definitely on its way there.

"Over drinks, maybe? I can ask things very nicely when there are drinks involved."

God, Kanan. You were so bad at this Jedi thing.

Her smirk widened just a little bit. "I do like a good drink." Or two, or several.

"And there is a bar in town where they don't serve the students," Kanan added, going another step or two in that 'shameless' direction. "If that's your speed."

He had yet to meet an adult who liked drinking with the students around.

There was also a non-bar option, but he was testing the waters, here.

Electroclash had been to Caritas enough to know that you didn't actually see a ton of students there, most of the time. But mostly she was just calculating how much of a slag she wanted to come off as when they'd just met.

She was leaning towards 'maybe not very'.

"Devil's Nest?" she replied. "Works for me."

"Great," Kanan replied, his near-shameless expression holding true. If she had said as much, hell, it wasn't like he'd judge her for it. Kanan's standards were... well, he probably had some. He might have left them in his junk heap of a ship. "We can pick an evening that works for you, and drinks are on me."

Translation: 'You are literally the only adult woman I have met in the several months since arriving on the island, so my evenings are completely free and I'm not about to assume that yours are too.'
