Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

It may have just been a coincidence that the weather was sunny now that Fandom was back home in Maryland, but no one was going to complain.

Okay, maybe they were going to complain a little since the sun meant it was in the high 90s 32C outside, but that just meant there was a good excuse for all the ice cream on the buffet table of picnic food.

There was the usual second table set up as well, stacked with nametags and lists to help folks locate their siblings and roommates. Once the chairs were set up and the tables were glittered, it was time to welcome the new folks and start a new semester!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Cassandra nodded. "We should... after the picnic is finished, we can move it all, I think." A beat. "The sooner, the better."

It would be good to rid herself of the memories of what she and Garik had done in her room, also.

"We should," Lucille agreed. "I borrowed a few books from the library yesterday. Perhaps we could spend the evening reading?"

"That seems lovely," Cassandra said, smiling at her. "What did you find?"

"A new series of books, I think," Lucille said. "Two sisters seeking to get their ancestral home back and finding love and adventure on their journey. It might be interesting." Hopefully Cassandra would think the same.

Cassandra perked up. "That sounds wonderful," she enthused. "Do you have two copies of the first book? Or should we read to one another?"

"Only one, but reading it to one another would be a pleasant way to spend evenings when we have nothing else to do." Lucille could think of few ways she would rather spend an evening.

She nodded. "Then we should do that," Cassandra said. "We can pass the book around and take turns. And... perhaps we should set up a collection or some more shelves to keep more of them around."

Oh, we should!" That was a wonderful idea. "It would be like a very small library of our own."

"That would be lovely," Cassandra said, smiling. "It would be useful. We have only a small space to utilize; sharing it more efficiently can only benefit us both."

"And it will sharing our favorite books even easier," Lucille said. "I will bookmark my favorite poems for you, and you can do the same for me, if we find ourselves on our own and bored."

"We will have to designate a shelf for recommendations," Cassandra decided. "Borrowed or bought."

"Yes," Lucille agreed. "Perhaps we should go shopping for books together some time?"

"That would be a better time," Lucille said. "We will be more settled in too." She added: "What classes have you chosen?"

"I put in for sports, and Professor Cara's class," Cassandra said, and sighed, "But they substituted the latter with a class by someone named... Mr. Peanutbutter?"

"Mr Peanutbutter? That sounds like someone out of a children's story," Lucille said. "What is the subject of the class?"

"I've read the class description several times, and I am still unsure," Cassandra admitted. "What are your classes?"

"Ethics," Lucille said, "And Sexual Education." Mentioning the latter one made her blush a little, but she had chosen it because learning about such matters seemed so much easier in this time.
