Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

It may have just been a coincidence that the weather was sunny now that Fandom was back home in Maryland, but no one was going to complain.

Okay, maybe they were going to complain a little since the sun meant it was in the high 90s 32C outside, but that just meant there was a good excuse for all the ice cream on the buffet table of picnic food.

There was the usual second table set up as well, stacked with nametags and lists to help folks locate their siblings and roommates. Once the chairs were set up and the tables were glittered, it was time to welcome the new folks and start a new semester!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Not this time," Atton said. Hey, if she was going to ignore he'd been away all summer, he would too. "But the day is young. Maybe I missed someone."

It had been longer than just over the summer, anyway. "One of the new teachers ––" She assumed it was a teacher, anyway. "–– looks like he's wearing a dog mask."

"... Oh, right. I guess we do have one with a tail," Atton said, peering past her. "What do you think? Some kind of weird mutant experiment? He doesn't look completely like a Bothan..."

Sarah looked over, cocking her head. "Someone got a little too familiar with a pet?"

Sarah, please.

"Or, you know. Dogs took over as the superior leaders of a planet."

"They're dogs," Atton said. "They don't have that kind of attention span."

Sarah scoffed and waved a hand dismissively. What did he know? "Like you know what they were like where he's from."

"I've met Bothans. Bothans are smart," Atton retorted. "Earth dogs? They're... Earth dogs."

"Whatever." Sigh. She glanced around. "How long does an appearance at one of these bloody things need to last for someone to think I'm doing my job, again?"

"How've you been, then, space boy? Socializing the fuck out of everyone you meet?"

"Catch-up dinner?" he said.

They could waive away the past months of not seeing each other with dinner, bitching and maybe some time in the sack, right?
