Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

It may have just been a coincidence that the weather was sunny now that Fandom was back home in Maryland, but no one was going to complain.

Okay, maybe they were going to complain a little since the sun meant it was in the high 90s 32C outside, but that just meant there was a good excuse for all the ice cream on the buffet table of picnic food.

There was the usual second table set up as well, stacked with nametags and lists to help folks locate their siblings and roommates. Once the chairs were set up and the tables were glittered, it was time to welcome the new folks and start a new semester!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"I only see one Dante," Cecil said, helpfully pointing him out.

Then, to the pets, "Play nicely, you two. No hard pecking, no leg chewing."

Stance gave an answering bark and a wag of his tail in reply, and then returned to his prancing. Kanan just shook his head at the pets - and at Cecil, just the slightest bit - before shrugging his shoulders.

"I suppose we should be thankful there's only the one. I don't think the island would survive multiples."

"Oh, it's pretty resilient," Cecil assured him breezily.

"So I've heard," Kanan mused. "I have yet to really see it need to bounce back from anything too severe, though. I was busy being a Loth-cat that one time."

He'd been a disoriented one, though, who was more than a little perturbed about the island's special relationship with gravity at the time.

"Oh, and you were so cute!" Cecil gushed. "I'm only sorry I didn't have fingers to scritch you with more."

"Well... somehow we both survived," Kanan replied, trying not to look too awkward about that right there. "Maybe the next time around the island will make a note of that for you."

Seriously. Weird.

"Well," Kanan sighed, "I suppose cat-me would appreciate it. But you know Stance and Foucault are going to want in on that, too."

And who was a good squishy puppy? Was it Stance? Was it?

"Of course!" Cecil nodded. "Foucault will want to give you rides, too. And probably preen you."

Kanan sighed. The preening hadn't even been so bad, if he was being completely honest.

"Well, then I guess that'll work out nicely, huh?" He shook his head a little. "Just don't let me shred anything if it happens again, and we'll be set."

"Deal." Cecil nodded. "And you have to do the same if I turn into...anything shreddy. Unless it's something dangerous, I guess."

Then again - Cecil. What were the chances?

"I can probably still handle you if you're dangerous," Kanan mused. "But first priority would be getting the pets out of danger. Then I can worry about whatever's going on with... anything shreddy."

He'd been thinking about this.

"I wonder what I would turn into," Cecil pondered. He'd never actually done that before. "Oo, do you think I could have tentacles?" That would be neat!

"I don't see why not. Put in a special request to the island. Tentacles if and when it turns you into an animal."

... This was going to end in tears, someday, wasn't it?
