BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge, Saturday morning

After missing a flight due to airport security feeling the need to wand over every single piercing she had, Negasonic was in a bit a mood. Then she saw the glittery banner welcoming all Fandom High students and the portalocity lounge.

Ugh. Glitter.

She dumped her duffel bag on the floor and slumped into a chair. Five seconds later she had her phone out to tweet about what a lousy flight experience she had and how little she was looking forward to going to a new school.

She immediately got a tweet back from Colossus. "Give it a chance."

Ugh. Optimism.

She slunk down in her chair a little farther and hoped the shuttle would get here soon so she could at least be going someplace.

Margaery didn't really know what she had expected. She'd left Highgarden a day or so ago on horseback, in the company of three knights to see her safe passage. (One had been her brother Loras, and she wouldn't easily admit how long she'd clung to him when it had been time to part.)

But rather than a ship, as she'd anticipated, they'd found a shimmering sort of...door, when they reached the coast. Margaery had no dealings with magic - it was delightfully fun when travelers to her father's castle brought stories of red priests and ancient dragons, of course, but she'd never seen anything before her very eyes.

And the strangeness hadn't dissipated when she'd crossed through the portal. Left clutching her own bag - no horses or knights here to bear a lady's burden - Margaery took a seat with wide eyes.

This place was very, very different from home. Grandmother had said to be brave, to trust her that this was the right path - but Margaery felt her stomach tightening in a knot of nerves, all the same. She tried to keep her face placid and calm, though she couldn't help a little awe seeping into her features as she looked around.

Kuzco, sprawled in one of the uncomfortable waiting area chairs, gave her a two-fingered wave of slight politeness, then adjusted his crown.

In case maybe she'd missed how amazing and important he was, since the other people hadn't been nearly impressed enough. "Heya."

"Good afternoon," Margaery replied, smiling warmly - as far as she was concerned, anyone she met here needed to become an ally, and quickly. She was so, so far from home. Her eyes flicked to his crown, and she felt even further from home. "Is that your House's sigil?" she asked, a note of regret in her voice. "I'm sorry, I really should have learned those before I came here."

She'd been too busy commissioning an entire new wardrobe. Priorities.

"Well, just this once I won't throw you in the dungeon Yzma doesn't think I know about," Kuzco said. "I'm Kuzco."

He said that like it was completely obvious she should know who that was.

(There was no reason it should be obvious.)

"Lady Margaery, of House Tyrell," she replied, straightening her shoulders. She wasn't used to making her own introductions but it really wasn't as though there was anyone else to do it for her. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Kuzco."

She extended her hand, so that he might kiss it. At the very least she expected him to do the courtly thing and kiss the air above it.

Kuzco looked the hand for a second, shook it quickly and then let it drop.

He wasn't big on touching.

"So at least you make sense for the big leadership thing we're here for. I don't know about some of these others."

That's how he had gotten shoved through a portal and sent here: a big lie about a leadership weekend.

"Leadership thing?" Margaery echoed. "Well, that certainly sounds like something I'd be interested in - but I must admit to not knowing of anything specific ahead of time."

She took a little further interest in him, though, ad that admission - "Does that mean you're to inherit, then?" she asked, smiling. "Or are you a rising military leader, perhaps?"

He didn't look it, but she figured he might be flattered.

"Oh, I already run things," Kuzco said breezily. "I'm Emperor."

"Emperor of...?" Margaery asked. "Here? Forgive my unfamiliarity."

She'd only just gotten here, after all.

"School, primarily, but - is there going to be a fair?" Margaery asked, her eyes lighting up. "Oh, you always hope that there might be a feast, or even a tourney but - oh, how fun!"

She smiled over at Negasonic, doing her level best to look as though the other girl's appearance was totally normal to her. "Are you to attend school, as well?"

RE: Re: Wait for the shuttle...

[identity profile] hidingthorns.livejournal.com 2016-08-26 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Margaery pouted, just for a moment. "Well, I'll just keep hoping there might be a fair. School alone sounds...like there shall be a lot of reading."

"Lady Margaery is perfectly fine," she assured her, warmly. "I do like to read - I just hope it's not a dour, windowless sort of affair where we all must bend our backs over desks all day, you know?"

Re: Wait for the shuttle...

"My septas were more strict than some," Margaery admitted with a smile, shrugging. "Your education to this point has been more of a source of joy for you, Negasonic, rather than one of boredom? I must admit to some jealousy, if so."

She pronounced every syllable of the other girl's name carefully, worried she'd get it wrong. (Was she Nega of House Sonic? Did people here style themselves differently from the Westerosi? Margaery was kicking herself for not asking her father's maester for books about this place, if any were available.)

"Uh, you're very... hi." Yeah, there was Rhys usual level of charm. -20%

It worked for him never.

"Hi."

"Good afternoon!" Margaery was in for a rude awakening when she realized that it wasn't morning, amongst other time-related things. "Are you off to school, as well?"

She was making a conscious effort to look at his good eye, because the fact that he wasn't bleeding or shrieking told her that his appearance was probably not cause for panic - and, as such, should be treated as perfectly average.

She'd met enough knights who had suffered a loss at jousting and been the...less whole for it.

[identity profile] got-hijacked.livejournal.com 2016-08-26 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, if he tried any of that jousting and what not, it would end in high pitched screaming and running away. His heroism was the thing of legends.

Truly.

He laughed at that because he had no idea what he was in for. "School? Me?"

Yes, you. Christ, Rhys.

"Well, that's where I'm off to," Margaery explained, shrugging one shoulder. "School. In some place called Fandom."

She took a look around, and then leaned forward as though confiding a secret. "I suspect I may be in the right place."

Hard to tell, really, what with the glitter.

[identity profile] got-hijacked.livejournal.com 2016-08-26 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Do you know where Fandom is?" he asked, totally trying to not sound like he was completely lost. He was, in fact, more lost than even that.

"My grandmother said it was on the other side of the world," Margaery said, her face drawing just a little bit before her smile rebloomed."From Westeros, that is. An undiscovered country, aside from this settlement."

Olenna had been super-wrong, it turned out, but the pamphlet had admittedly been vague.

"It feels like a great adventure, doesn't it?"

Re: Wait for the shuttle...

[identity profile] got-hijacked.livejournal.com 2016-08-27 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
"...Westeros," Rhys nodded and repeated like he hadn't a single clue where that was. Which was going to be a running theme around here, he gathered. "Adventures are a little overrated."

Sometimes they ended with a psychopath attempting to shove a robotic skeleton inside you as a reward. And no, not dirty.

"Are you an expert?" she asked, eyebrows lifting. "On adventures, that is."

He seemed like he might have done some adventuring. Just a guess.

"Because I'm afraid I'm rather new to it."
