How to Be Awesome, Wednesday, 3rd Period

The Danger Shop looked like a movie theater today. Jackson was parked at one end of the back row of seats.

"Today we're gonna look at things not being awesome," he drawled. "Like this movie. Which you're gonna watch now. So sit your asses down."

Yeah, it was a movie day. Look, the island had smelled funny since Jackson had shown up this morning. As the kids filed in it became extra obvious that there was no point to having a proper class, which was good, because the weird smells were throwing Jackson off anyway.

So the movie began.

Ada should have stayed in bed, except she really didn't fit in her bed as a pony.

Fine. She'd get as comfortable as she could with extra legs (which, to be fair, was better than no legs), and watch the movie.

Fwump, said Dante's body, as it flopped down next to her. "Murr," he said.

"Ain't you supposed 't say 'neigh,' not 'murr'?" she asked, leaning against him for a moment for a shoulder-bump. If she'd been Ada-shaped she'd have put her head on his shoulder, but that just wasn't working as a pony. "Hey."

"I'm not a real pony," Dante retorted. Because he wasn't, damn it. He nudged her shoulder back with his face. "You okay?" Beat. "Besides the stupid pony thing."

"Could be worse, I could be a seahorse," she pointed out. "So this is better than it could be."

She looked at the floor and shrugged. "I just... I couldn't stay yesterday. He was just makin' me too damn mad."

"Fucking asshole," Dante said, with gusto. "Sorry, Ades. We'll just do some extra hanging out when this stupid thing passes, okay?"

"Ice cream, drinks, an' that ride you promised me b'fore we got scolded f'r not usin' code," she said, rolling her eyes.

Then; "I was doin' pretty good b'fore that, y'know? Not happy 'bout it, but Hya don't seem t' hate me an' I think I got all m' memories that matter back, so I was coping. An' he just... I dunno. I admitted why this sorta thing freaks me th' fuck out, an' that was the response I got."

Not exactly encouraging her to open up more, Fandom.

"They're teachers."

In Dante's book, that pretty much said everything.

"They're not gonna do right by you. Next time they act like you can trust them, just ignore it."

"I didn't do it f'r them," she admitted, scuffing one hoof on the floor. If she'd been person-shaped, she'd be picking at the scars on her wrists again. "I thought maybe if I said it out loud instead of just lettin' it eat at me, I'd be less angry about it."

"Won't make that mistake again, leastwise not where some teacher can pick at it."

"Can we cancel this week?" Isabela asked once she figured out which other pony was Ada. "It's terrible."

"How 'bout we back up t' Friday?" Ada suggested. "Mind, my weekend wasn't bad, but I didn't need t' lose my mind."

"I can work with that," Isabela said, bumping her with her shoulder. "Stupid island."

"We should go in t' Baltimore again," she decided, leaning in to bump back. "Go meet new and interesting wallets, an' introduce 'em to nice girls."

"...when we're people-shaped again."

That was a Good Plan as far as Isabela was concerned.

"It'd be a challenge trying to meet new wallets like this," she said dryly.

"Nah, people'd get super close an' handsy 'cause we're cute an' look like somthin' out of a movie," Ada pointed out. "They'd think it was a publicity thing an' we'd be super-close to th' wallets. It's gettin' 'em out of th' pockets that'd be hard."

"We could probably use our mouths but giant pony heads are more noticeable than quick fingers."

She missed her thumbs.

"An' you got such nice, quick fingers," Ada said with a sigh. "Hooves just ain't right."

Roscoe was determined to get the hang of texting with hooves, and so, hi, big sis, you were getting a text.

Watching Ada try to text back was probably hilarious, tiny pony nose scrunched up in concentration as she typed back.

Yes, Ada was trying to figure out how to style his wings. It seemed the easiest place to start.
