Practical Philosophy, Thursday

"It was a quiet weekend this week," Ender said. "Outside of whatever trouble you might have gotten into going to the restaurant across the Causeway."

He smiled faintly at the students. "We're spending a lot of time travelling this summer," he said. "To some places that might seem hard for you to parse - though some more than others. How do you feel when you see the skies explode inside that restaurant? When you're watching skyscrapers towering above the island one moment, and then nothing but empty skies and stars? Is it difficult to grasp? Do you avoid it?"

He wasn't looking specifically at Hyacinthe, but the implication was there. "What steps have you taken to adapt to life on this island so far?" he said. "Is there anything you wonder about? Something that's not clear about this time and place and..."

He gestured faintly at the sky.

"All of this?"

"The exploding sky was hard to take," Mara admitted. "The end of everything--it gave me a headache."

It just about knocked her out through the Force, but she wasn't going to say that.

Mara nodded. "And I know it's a time and space paradox thing, where I saw the entire universe explode and then people continued to live their lives perfectly normally not a moment later, but in that moment...it was terrifying."
