US History - Period 7 - 03/15/06

Hawkeye was taking class today. He leaned against the desk at the front of the classroom dressed in boots and clothes that were hidden underneath his maroon bathrobe. "Morning," he greeted. "On Monday you were told to research a little piece of history and say what you think about it. Today you get to actually say it and tell everyone what you researched, what you found and what you think about the delightful moment in the history of the United States." He took a swig of his coffee. Yeah. Coffee. Just coffee. Yep. "I'll bet there's some real doozies. Who's first?"

Jake pulls out his notebook and starts talking: The first reference to coffee being drunk in North America (http://www.ico.org/coffee_story.asp) is from 1668 and, soon after, coffee houses were established in New York, Philadelphia, Boston and other towns. The Boston Tea Party Of 1773 was planned in a coffee house, the Green Dragon. Both the New York Stock Exchange and the Bank of New York started in coffeehouses, in what is today the financial district known as Wall Street."

He then goes on to talk about Gabriel Mathieu de Clieu, the Dutch and the glory of Seattle. Someone better cut him off before he keeps going.
