Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Gosh, the summer picnic was so much nicer--and warmer--than the spring one. There were tables and chairs set up in the sun and the shade, and more than enough food for everyone. Hopefully, everyone was up for socializing for a while!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Alluka had a stuffed elephant tucked under one arm as she lingered around the food tables and ate chocolate.

She should probably eat something that wasn't chocolate at some point--if only because Kathy would want her to do that--but, for now, she was ignoring most everything else in favour of eating and talking to her elephant about what she was eating.

(Her elephant didn't like chocolate covered strawberries. Her elephant possibly had terrible taste.)

Her elephant definitely had terrible taste.

But Ringo wasn't thinking about that when she spotted Alluka. No, she was kind of pacing around nearby, mentally practicing the apology she was going to give the girl she hoped was still her friend.

It was kind of taking a while because apologies were hard!

The thing was, the pacing got to be pretty obvious? So much so that even Alluka noticed after a bit.

She glanced up and blinked at Ringo. There was a long moment as Alluka's feelings were complicated and jumbled. But of course they were still friends. So she did what she would've done even if they hadn't fought:

"Ringo! Ringo, come and see! Ringo, they've got chocolate covered blueberries this time! And chocolate covered orange slices too!"

... at least she was eating fruit?

Ringo blinked, but her expression of concentration melted away into a smile. And, of course, she came over to see.

"Wow. It's like everything's covered in chocolate." She grinned over at Alluka. "Someone made some good choices for snacks this time, huh?"

"They made the best choices!" she said happily, offering Ringo some of the blueberries. "They're really good! I wonder who decides what there's going to be?"

"Huh. Good question." Ringo grinned. "And I wonder if you can give them suggestions."

She took some of the blueberries, then stilled slightly.

"Um, hey, Alluka?" Ringo didn't usually sound unsure of herself.

Alluka blinked at her, popping some blueberries into her own mouth as she did.

"Hm?"

"I, um," wasn't very good at this. "I wanted to, you know, apologize. For the other day in Kathy's room. I said something that upset you, and I didn't mean to." Even if she wasn't sure exactly what the words had been.

She blinked again.

Ringo had said mean things, and things Alluka still thought were stupid, but she wasn't sure if she'd ever been apologized to before.

What was she supposed to do?

She offered Ringo an orange slice. "Okay?"

Was it okay? She was confused.

Ringo took it, looking a bit worried at Alluka's response.

"Um, do you think you can forgive me?"

Please?

For disagreeing with her?

Alluka laughed. "You're being silly, Ringo!"

You were already forgiven!

Ringo blinked. "I am?" She smiled, a bit confused at Alluka's response, but relieved at the same time. "Isn't that normal for me, though?"

"Yes," Alluka said, since that meant Ringo had to stop being weird now, didn't it? "But it's okay. Since you're Ringo."

"Well, I do my best."

Ringo looked over at Alluka for a moment, then shrugged. "So I know you have a bunch of chocolate, but other than that, are you having fun so far?"

"So many things are great today!" she bubbled happily. "Papa gave me a job at the music store, so now I have two of them! Two jobs, Ringo! And, and Dante's going to teach me to hit things!"

Which was possibly terrifying. But she was excited.

"Oh, a new job! That's exciting."

As for the Dante thing, hmm. Ringo tapped her chin thoughtfully with one finger. "Hitting things with Dante, huh?" She cocked her head. "What brought that on?"

Alluka was not entirely certain, honestly!

"Well, he said that I couldn't always just cry if someone hurt me," she said, which had seemed reasonable enough. "And all my brothers know how to hit people."

And more than that, besides.

"Well, I guess that makes sense." Ringo pursed her lips, but despite everything, she trusted Dante. At least when it came to other peoples' safety. So this might actually end up being a good thing.

"So: new job, learning to hit things. That's a lot of excitement to start the summer with!"

Ringo grinned, looking up at the sky for a moment. "Summer is the best, too." Didn't Alluka agree?

Alluka didn't have much frame of reference, but she'd liked all the seasons of the past year pretty much. They all had exciting things to go and see and do.

"It's nice," she said happily. "Do you like summer the best?"

"Yeah. The weather is so good for being outside, which means that you can basically just do AirTrek all the time!" That was the best!

Alluka laughed. "Does that mean you're always going to be busy with it?"

"Well, not always, but a lot." Ringo grinned. "But I don't know if I'd call it 'busy' since, you know, it's fun!"

"It is fun," Alluka agreed. "And you're so good at it that it would be silly to not have fun with it."

Alluka, on the other hand, was barely decent at normal skating, let alone the kind that meant using the features related to AirTrek.

"Hey!" Ringo's grin widened. "You should come with me sometimes!" Alluka had potential. Ringo wasn't sure how much, but she could tell there was something there.

Maybe it was genetic?

There was definitely likely to be some genetic component to it, given that her family had been very, very careful about who they married and how strong they were for generations.

Not that Alluka really knew any of that.

"Can, can I?" she asked hopefully. "I won't slow you down too much?"
