Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Back at home in Maryland, the weather was awful and raining and gross, just like it had been all week. Thankfully, Fandom's current locale was providing the island with much nicer weather to welcome the new students. It was warm, and sunny, and just about everything the administration could ask for on picnic day.

The tables and chairs had been dragged out and set up around the lawn, and there was the usual buffet table of delectable foods, along with the table of nametags and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything set up, it was time to welcome the new folks!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"What, the coke?" Fred asked. "That's because it's just sugar, water, and carbonation. Not from around here? Oh, and the answer to your question is of course I do."

[OOC: Sorry for the delay. Mother's Day Weekend stuff!]

"Not from even remotely around here," Kanan replied, giving the other man a wry grin. "That obvious, is it?"

Maybe a little, Kanan.

[ooc: No worries at all! I'm pinging during the intermission at a concert, myself. SP is grand?]

"The usual debate about that drink is if it's 'soda,' 'pop,' or 'coke,'" Fred noted. "'Syrupy stuff' is a dead giveaway. I'm Fred and we have two bars in town, one that the students can't drink at. So we have one good bar."

[Like a piano!]

"Then that's the one I need directions to," Kanan decided, giving a satisfied nod. "I'm Kanan. Apparently I'm supposed to be teaching here. Which was news to me, this morning."

And it wasn't even the biggest news he'd gotten today. So.

"Oh, hey, I'm supposed to be your teaching buddy. Fred Myers," Fred said. "The bar is called the Devil's Nest. Go through the nearest gate and follow the big wall until you're past the rocky stuff. First right past that, then the first left after that. The other one is right around the corner, but it has kids, zombies, and karaoke. So. Yeah. I think that's about all the wisdom I can give you unless you have other specific questions."

"Nothing specific, but now I know who to look for if something comes to mind," Kanan replied, giving Fred an easy little grin. "Sounds to me like you've already shared the most important parts."

He'd probably come calling again once he realized he didn't have any of the local currency, asking if there was somewhere he could trade in his credits.

"There's some weird stuff around here, but hell if I know what most of it is or why it happens, so you'll learn to deal with it," Fred said. "If you need anything, here's my card."

Fred pulled a small, cardstock boomerang out of his pocket and tossed it over easily. "Call if you need something."

Kanan caught the card with as much ease as Fred had thrown it, and gave it a glance.

More High Galactic. People here were fancy, apparently.

"Hey, I appreciate it," he replied, giving Fred a little salute with the card still between his fingers. "I'm sure I can handle my fair share of weird, but if it comes down to it, I'll be sure to give you a call."

"That's exactly the kind of attitude I was hoping for when I signed up to do that thing," Fred said. Honestly, he didn't even remember signing up. He must have clicked a link in his e-mail or something when he wasn't paying enough attention.

"Which works out great for the both of us," Kanan decided. He really wasn't one for getting terribly close to the locals anyway. At least, not until he'd had a chance to scope out all the best escape routes. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have directions to the good bar, and I'm going to want to make use of those before I forget what you said."

And then he could drink himself stupid before going back to pass out in the Expedient. Maybe in the morning he'd even look at the papers he'd been handed long enough to realize that somebody had arranged for a room for him to stay in, too.
