Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Back at home in Maryland, the weather was awful and raining and gross, just like it had been all week. Thankfully, Fandom's current locale was providing the island with much nicer weather to welcome the new students. It was warm, and sunny, and just about everything the administration could ask for on picnic day.

The tables and chairs had been dragged out and set up around the lawn, and there was the usual buffet table of delectable foods, along with the table of nametags and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything set up, it was time to welcome the new folks!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Roscoe didn't see himself hiding, necessarily, but only because being alone too much sometimes stressed him out. Meeting people - even if they were carnies or aliens or whatever - was probably going to make him feel more at ease in the long run.

"That sucks," he said sympathetically. "Sounds like a pretty shitty introduction to a new place. How'd you get over it?"

"Made friends, mostly," she replied. "'S mostly good people around here, Even if'n we don't all get on all the time. An' I like bein' around people."

"Me too," Roscoe said immediately. "Hence being at boarding school instead of sticking around an empty apartment all summer."

He shrugged.

"What was the carnival thing like? Did you do tricks or something?"

Ada broke out in a wide grin. "Ada Miller, barker for the Miller Family Carnival," she said, sweeping a deep and fancy bow...with a flower appearing in her hand for Roscoe via some basic slight-of-hand. "I can fix a ferris wheel, talk a princess out of her pearls, and never cheat at cards."

She always cheated at cards. It just wasn't cheating unless you got caught.

Ooh, a flower! Roscoe grinned and stuck it behind his ear.

"That's awesome," he said sincerely. "So you're like seriously savvy about shit." That wasn't meant to come out quite so alliterative.

"If'n it's somethin' I can get my hands on, or if it's people. 'M good with people," she admitted. "I ain't so good at stuff like geography or history or stuff like that."
