Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Back at home in Maryland, the weather was awful and raining and gross, just like it had been all week. Thankfully, Fandom's current locale was providing the island with much nicer weather to welcome the new students. It was warm, and sunny, and just about everything the administration could ask for on picnic day.

The tables and chairs had been dragged out and set up around the lawn, and there was the usual buffet table of delectable foods, along with the table of nametags and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything set up, it was time to welcome the new folks!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"You've never had a slumber party?" Steven said. "They're great! You all get to huddle around and just... sleep in the same room! But you can talk until you fall asleep, or share stories, or sometimes people just fall asleep right away."

"Well it looks like you get to be a special cadet, since you get a dual room. So do I. So does everybody, it looks like."

Was a slumber party like overnight field training? They weren't really encouraged to share stories and talk during those, though.

"I don't know if anybody's really special if we all get the same thing," FN-2187 pointed out.

"Everybody's special in their own way," Steven said, completely earnestly. "Just sometimes we haven't figured out what it is, yet."

He smiled. "You know, I forgot to ask your name back at the lobby."

"Oh, uh," FN-2187 said, "my designation is FN-2187." He had a sticker on his breastplate and everything! He'd never had a sticker before.

"That means you're my roommate!" Steven said excitedly. "I'm Steven, Steven Universe. It's gonna be a great time, FN-2187."

Steven paused. "That's what you want to be called?"

"Well," FN-2187 said, a little awkwardly self-conscious, "It's my name." Or, not name, but what he had. "You can call me something else if you want to," he offered. "Steven Universe, huh?" Universe was a Jedi-sounding last name...

"That's my name," Steven said. "The Universe is from my dad, he was a rock star." He nodded proudly. He was super proud of his dad.

He thought for a second. "How about Sev? Or... hmmm. I am not as good at this as Amethyst."
