Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Back at home in Maryland, the weather was awful and raining and gross, just like it had been all week. Thankfully, Fandom's current locale was providing the island with much nicer weather to welcome the new students. It was warm, and sunny, and just about everything the administration could ask for on picnic day.

The tables and chairs had been dragged out and set up around the lawn, and there was the usual buffet table of delectable foods, along with the table of nametags and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything set up, it was time to welcome the new folks!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"I'm not sure, my ship went though something in space, and I ended up here," Ahsoka replied. "Then Anakin found me."

A thought belatedly occurred to her. "This isn't like Mortis, is it?"

That had been...weird.

Obi-Wan let out a sigh. It was shakier than he'd like. "No, it's nothing like Mortis," he said. "This is a strange place all its own. Though sometimes I wonder if it is a manifestation of the Force's sense of humor."

"Why would you say that?" Ahsoka asked. "You and Anakin are here and alive. Isn't that good, rather than funny?"

She didn't know.

Of course she didn't know. Obi-Wan hadn't told anyone. He hadn't even known Anakin was alive until he came here.

"I suppose," he said slowly, "That you are right."

Boy, was it going to be a fun surprise when she did find out.

"You saying that felt a lot more gratifying when I was a Padawan."

"Few things are as they were," Obi-Wan said delicately.

Not that he had a history of hedging, or anything. "But I am glad to see you here in one piece."

And you wondered why Anakin had had trust issues.

"Me too," Ahsoka said. "I wasn't sure anyone had survived, let alone you two."

"Neither was I," Obi-Wan said. "Finding him here was... a surprise."

For reasons.

That he was not telling Ahsoka.

It'd only break her heart, and she'd need it for when she did find out.

"You're telling me."

"He seems to have settled in quite thoroughly," Obi-Wan said, after a pause. "You should ask him..."

He trailed off.

Then he stepped forward and tried to hug her. He'd been sitting on that one since he'd seen her.

It was a stranger to think of initiating a hug with Obi-Wan than Anakin (or Master Plo, back when that had still been a possibility) but that didn't mean she wouldn't eagerly accept one.

"I missed you," she said. "Even before."

"I missed you as well, Ahsoka," Obi-Wan said, hugging her tight. "I'm so happy to see you here alive."

Was there a little strain in his voice? Well, it went along with the tears he was squeezing back.

Seeing Anakin alive again had been complicated. This... was not.
