Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Back at home in Maryland, the weather was awful and raining and gross, just like it had been all week. Thankfully, Fandom's current locale was providing the island with much nicer weather to welcome the new students. It was warm, and sunny, and just about everything the administration could ask for on picnic day.

The tables and chairs had been dragged out and set up around the lawn, and there was the usual buffet table of delectable foods, along with the table of nametags and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything set up, it was time to welcome the new folks!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"And what does 'sharing living space' involve?"

Peridot was very new with that one. But then, Peridot didn't sleep. It wasn't as though she'd ever needed a bedroom, after all.

"Mostly it's just about respecting each other, keeping your belongings tidy, that kind of thing. "

"That sounds easy enough."

Since she had no belongings. At all. Even her robonoids had all been on the ship. And now her screen was acting up, too? Ugh.

"Very well. Then I will be your... roommate... for as long as I'm stuck on this planet." A pause. "You wouldn't happen to know which planet this is, would you? My screen is malfunctioning."

"Some place called Earth, though I've never heard of it."

"Earth?!" Peridot squeaked, and then held her hand out, four of her fingers floating up and away from her hand to form the outline of her screen. Her remaining one poked at the writing that appeared, trying one more time for a proper diagnostic, but the screen flickered once, then again, and then she was just left standing there with her jaw hanging open and her errant fingers floating back to re-form a hand at the end of her arm. "But... but my calculations! This couldn't possibly be--"

Okay. No, This still wasn't a disaster. She was going to just... pace back and forth for a moment, and then rake her fingers through her hair, and... there. Composure. Good.

"I suppose it would explain all of the humans."

There was that.

"If you say so." Like she'd said, she didn't know anything about an Earth (or the fact they technically were only on a part of it right now).

"I just did!"

Yeah, now there was waving of arms in the air, and more renewed pacing.

"You! How did you get here?"

Maybe it would give her a clue as to how to get away from here.

"My ship crashed." Right now she was pretty sure it more likely to explode than make orbit so that was a no.

There was a long pause, then.

Well. That was inconvenient.

"Mine, too." So they were both trapped here. At least the Ahsoka didn't seem as intent on getting in her way as those Crystal Gem clods had been. "Perhaps there's something about this planet's gravitational pull..."

"It's possible." Ahsoka doubted it.

"Either that, or we're both lousy pilots," Peridot countered. "Though in fairness, my arms were a bit tied at the time."

Literally.

Curse that tiny Amethyst.

"If I was a lousy pilot there'd be a new crater in the island," Ahsoka said dryly.

Peridot... was not going to mention the new crater by the beach. The tide would wash it away soon enough, most likely, and she could pretend she hadn't just fled from there half-expecting to run into a hostile Gem renegade around every corner.

"So... how did you crash, then?"

"My ship's heap of salvage held together with hope and space tape." It was a matter of when, not if something gave out.

"Ah," Peridot replied. "So it was a gamble to be flying it at all."

Sorry, ship. Peridot was judging you.

"Is there any hope of repairing it?"

Beggars couldn't be choosers and neither could ex-Padawans in the Empire.

"We'll have to wait and see, if I'm lucky I won't need any new parts." She didn't think she'd be lucky.

Why would they be lucky, right? It was only being stranded. On a strange planet. With no hope of rescue.

They were all probably going to die or something. That was Peridot's expert opinion.

"Well, if there's anything I can do to help, I am a technician, myself."

And a bit of a brag, no humble about it.

Ahsoka never would have guessed.

"Thanks, I'll remember that."
