So Face had two kids this time around, which meant he had two 'helpers' for his shift today. Adra had been pretty disappointed to learn he didn't have a class she could (as) conveniently embarrass him in tomorrow, but that had lasted only until she realised that Antonia was an even better audience.

So they were huddled over a computer station, giggling to each other, while Face worked. Though he was spending just as much time keeping an eye on them in case they decided to conquer the galaxy.

Face glanced over to make sure the girls where still engrossed in whatever no doubt terrifying subject had their attention before replying. "Cass."

She was fidgeting. Damn it all.

"I... came to apologize," Cassandra said slowly.

"You know it's not me you owe the apology to, right." he said, his tone gentle rather than accusatory.

"I abandoned you," Cassandra pointed out. "...As well. So I still feel it is apt. I am sorry. I did not handle that... very well."

"You didn't," Face agreed. "I understand why, but she didn't."

Cassandra sighed. She looked at Antonia, her expression... difficult. "I am not sure what to say to her," she admitted.

"Start with 'I'm sorry'," Face prompted, still gentle. "She's a good kid, she just needs some reassurance."

Cassandra nodded, more to herself than to him. "All right," she said.

She set her shoulders in a straight line, then strode forward, attempting not to look as flaily as she felt.

She was failing miserably.

"Antonia?"

Antonia looked up from the utterly ridiculous footage of the even younger version of Dad, her grin subsiding. "Mom."

"Antonia," Cassandra said, pleased to find she was, at least, keeping herself from physical handwringing. "I-- I'm sorry."

There. That was a start.

Of course, that was all Garik had suggested she say, and so now she was groping around for words again.

Adra had been glaring at Cass behind Antonia's back (Dad was being reasonable, she didn't have to be), but she took pity on her and mouthed the word 'for' while making a 'go on' gesture with her hand.

She coughed. Discretely. "For walking out on you yesterday," Cassandra managed. "I should not have done that. I... I should have stayed. Even if you are sent here by the island, abandoning you was... there is no excuse."

Stop babbling, Cass.

Antonia had started standing as soon as she'd heard 'sorry', because Face had been right about her needing reassurance, though she was still watching Mom warily.

"You looked at me like..." Like the people who whipped up the angry mobs, instead of the one who glared them down.

"I'm sorry."

Perhaps if Cassandra said that emphatically enough, it would... something.

"It was... all something of... a surprise. But again, that is no excuse." Why were words so terrible? "If you are my daughter, then you are... my daughter."

From the future. Maker.

"Even though I'm a mage?" Because she had noticed the reaction to that, and was trying not to wonder if her mom was just better at hiding it.

"Yes."

Cassandra had had a full day to process this. She was done with that, and not running away again.

"Of course you are," she amended a moment later. "Please do not ever feel differently."

You had a not-so-small child colliding with your midsection, Cass, please try to react accordingly.

Cassandra looked mildly panicked there for a second. Then she closed her arms around the girl, unsure about what she was doing, but doing it anyway.
