"First off, if I find out that anyone went to see a superhero movie where two jerks in capes punch each other because the guy who created Facebook made them and it wasn't done ironically, you fail this class," Fred said. "Just on principle."

"Speaking of principles of this class, you might have noticed that most of the class is about running. Why is that? Why is that the most practical thing for you to get good at?" Fred asked. "Two reasons. First, cardio is great for you. Really improves your quality of living. Second, because there's a lot of things to run from in the world. Run to, too. And either direction you're running, you really want to make sure you know how to do it right."

"So this week, we're taking the old playground game of tag, because that's a thing where you're both running to and from. We're doing it a little differently, though. Two people are It. You have to chase your classmates around and try to tag them. NO TAG BACKS. If somebody tags you, they have five seconds of immunity and you have to stand still until those five seconds are up. Since this is a playground game, guess what?" Fred gestured at the shop all around him as the setting changed to a slightly scaled up playground. Monkey bars, slides, swings... All the equipment was properly sized for teens.

"Oh, and anyone who is It by the end of the game is going to get sprayed with slime. So, don't be It." That was a lie. Everyone was going to get sprayed with slime. But at least it was fake and wouldn't exist outside the shop!

Sure, Alana could be it. She watched for the slowest runner, muscles tense as she prepared to spring after them.

Someone was getting tackled by a pirate, who was the lucky sod?

Kathy was doing her best to keep out of reach since she most assuredly did not want to end up slimed. But while she was managing to keep an eye on for Alana, no one had thought to warn her about how tricky it was to watch out for ~~Dragon Age rogues~~ Rivaini pirates.

Dante could've warned her, but then he liked being tackled by Rivaini pirates (dirty, totally dirty).

Isabela wasn't exactly the gentlest of taggers as she attempted to tackle Kathy from behind.

Kathy could take that up with Dante later. Who would in fact have no sympathy and would probably be jealous.

"Wha--whoa!" Normally, Kathy would have no problems regaining her balance after being hit from behind, but that wasn't taking into account a Rivaini pirate more interested in tackling then tagging. She fell, bore to the ground by Isabela's weight.

"...Not how I expected my experimental lesbian phase to begin," she muttered before thinking.

Kathy, no.

"Really? Dante said you'd thought about it." Isabela had five seconds, she'd use them well. "Or maybe it's just the playing rough you're not into."

Isabela, no.

Bela, no.

"Not in the middle of class I didn't," Kathy said, privately resolving to tell Dante that he had a big mouth. "And I don't know what else he's been telling you, but--" With a maneuver learned through a decade of gymnastics and backed by superspeed, Kathy managed to roll Isabela off and keep going until she had the literal upper hand. She grinned down at the pirate fiercely. "--I've always liked it a little rough."

Kathy, no.

Kathy, yes.

"Glad to hear it," Isabela said, a far too satisfied smirk on her face for someone in her position. "Do you play dirty as well?"

Hands up, anyone who was surprised that Isabela's definition of playing dirty involved laying one on Kathy to distract her?

Uhh, Kathy would be putting her hand up? If, y'know, anyone had asked Kathy that question and she still had the brains to respond correctly. The narrative is confused about how Kathy could be surprised by this, but she managed to pull it off somehow.

Consider her sufficiently distracted, Isabela.

And, uhh, impressed. Yes, impressed, too, definitely.

To be fair, that wasn't how you were supposed to play tag, Isabela.

Taking advantage of Kathy's distraction, Isabela moved to flip them back over so she was on top again, and to bop her on the nose for good measure. "Oh, Dante was right about you, sweet thing."

Because why not leave her wondering what exactly he'd been saying about her?

Right, but it was Isabela. There was at least a good thirty percent chance that she'd try something dirty.

But they were in class!

"He was?" Kathy asked, sounding calm and collected and not at all dazed, really. "Wait, about what?!"

That they were in class was probably the main reason Isabela hadn't tried to feel her up as well.

She grinned shamelessly at Kathy and stood up. "Oh, things," she said by way of non-answer, palming a smoke vial out of her hip-scarf.

It was the flexibility, which was now giving Isabela all sorts of wonderful ideas.

Dammit, class. No wait, thank you, class! No wait--yeah, Kathy wasn't entirely sure what to feel right now.

She sat on the ground, still looking a little confused by the turn of events that had led to this. "Not a helpful answer," she mumbled.

And then showed off more of that flexibility getting back up to her feet. But that was just how Kathy rolled.

Isabela would be happy to show Kathy how to navigate these strange and unfamiliar waters, she was a helper like that. Just not in ~~a public comm~~ class.

"You can always ask Dante," she cheerfully sing-songed, skipping back out of Kathy's way, because she was the worst.

"Oh don't worry," Kathy called after her, shaking her head to try to clear it. "That is definitely on the agenda!"

And then she was whirling around to chase someone else. It wasn't a retreat, it was a tactical withdrawal!
