"Hey, kids, guess what!" Fred said, kicking things off. The fake gym in the Danger Shop was looking fancier today. The wood finishes were a little darker and the architecture was a little fancier. Arches and crap everywhere. It was possible Fred had just spent the past few weeks of slacking off with a book on architecture. Or he was trying to get them used to activity in what looked a little like a fancy bank lobby.

Wait until the wood floor became marble tile in a couple weeks.

"All guesses are wrong. You're doing an obstacle course today. And by 'obstacle' I mean fake people and desks and crap. Because that's the thing about running from or two stuff. It's not like you're going to actually sprint down a track. You're going to have to dodge, leap over, all that crap. Your goal is to get from all the way here to alllllllll the way down there as fast as possible without injuring anyone. Especially yourself."

There was a moat that looked like the floor, too, and it was going to be hilarious for the students to find out about that. "Okay, look lively, first person up, get ready. You're on the clock when I blow this whistle!" He didn't even have a whistle. He had a sonic boomerang that would whistle for him when he threw it.

And scope things out. There were A LOT of people, some walking, some standing stuff, some running themselves. A few runaway baby carriages with screaming babies. Desks, chairs, construction barriers, a few dogs, a guy with a flaming head demanding high fives.... It probably wasn't clear if Fred threw in things at random or if he carefully planned this madness. Either way, it's gonna be a pain.

Oh oh oh! This was entirely Kathy's jam. Speed, precision, bouncing from place to place--this was how she spent most nights out in Baltimore, actually.

She was bouncing on her toes and raring to go from the moment Fred started explaining what the assignment was.

It was a pain. It was a giant, ridiculous pain, and it all annoyed Alana so much she started running faster and jumping higher just so she'd be done and wouldn't have to worry about it any more.

She was as surprised as anybody when that tactic got her to the finish line first.

Rey could absolutely do this. But could she help the runaway babies now?

Get from here to waaaaaay down there through all of those people and things.

And don't forget the moat that you won't see coming. Heh heh heh. The moat.

As soon as the boomerang whistled on Kathy's turn, she was off like a shot sprinting at an easy fifty miles an hour. If it had just been an obstacle course, or even an obstacle course where she had to avoid bumping into anyone, she could have been to the end of the course and back in seconds.

But Fred had gone and programmed in people who needed help. And who was Kathy to turn away from a civilian in need? Very shortly after she started, she was chasing down baby carriages and the odd purse-snatcher, rather than making her way towards the end of the course.

Oops.

The entire reason Isabela was the TA was to avoid running, so she didn't bother rushing. Long practice at navigating crowds quickly without ~~arousing suspicion~~ looking like you were in a hurry meant she still finished sooner rather than later.

Ringo sighed. This would be so much easier with ATs. Sure, some of the skills carried over, and at least she had a couple of genetic modifications that made it easier to navigate a space like this, but running and jumping entirely under her own power? What a waste of energy.

Which was the only reason she didn't come in first. Really. Cause she didn't want to. So there.

Rey could get around really easily, so as soon as she could go she was pretty much flying through it and dodging everything she needed to.

She did help the runaway babies though. And she was still gonna do well on this.

I'm tired and have nothing witty here.

Isabela was there, chilling.

What place did you get? Run that many laps! Or talk to Fred to get out of it. Or be the TA and don't have to do it since you have preferred nation status.
