Pinkie waited for the students today wearing large mirrored sunglasses and several dozen paper shopping bags tucked at crazy angles across her withers and around her front legs. "Hiya everypony!" she called, waving frantically and setting the bags rustling and fluttering in a way that indicated in so uncertain terms that they were all entirely empty. "Hope you're ready for some super fun times today! We're going shopping!"

Eliot was dressed -- exactly like he would any other day of the week. Up to and including the incredulous expression he was shooting Pinkie. "If you wanna go shopping," he said. "You don't have to go shopping. We're not takin' a field trip to a mall or anything."

"Ooooo, we should totally do that!"

Eliot ignored her. "Today we're visitin' one of the largest and most economically successful cities in the world -- and one of my personal favorites: Seoul, South Korea." He looked around specifically for Kathy, then went back to addressing the entire class. "There is far too much to do in this city in one trip. I recommend pickin' one thing: shopping, sure, or a historical tour if that's your thing, or checkin' out one of their theme parks, or even just explorin' along the river, maybe, and keepin' the place in mind for future vacations."

"ENOUGH CHIT-CHAT!" Pinkie declared, bags flying again. "Let's go hit the town!!"

Eliot actually smiled a little at that. He was looking forward to seeing what Seoul made of a talking pink pony.

Eliot laughed. "Noted. Can't really argue with that kinda pedigree."

"Of course, as soon as I try anything that's not Korean, all bets are off," she said, chuckling along with him. "So you'll get to chide me eventually."

Though it would never be for a lack of diligence in the kitchen. That just wasn't Kathy's style. For anywherw, really.

"Hey, I make helpful suggestions."

Some of his helpful suggestions were angrier than others. Especially in the kitchen. He was no Gordon Ramsey, but that was mostly because he did more cold glaring than yelling.

"And in what tone are those helpful suggestions delivered?" Kathy asked, huffing a small laugh.

"Firm authority." Or as some might call it, his 'you're lucky I don't kill anymore' voice.

"Mmmhmm," Kathy said. "And if I asked the staff at Luke's? How would they describe it, you think?"

"They don't count."

"Eliot," Kathy tsked. "That's not very nice! Employees count, come on! What if I have to come back and work in the diner some summer for extra cash?"

"I ain't their teacher!" Eliot said. "It's a whole different dynamic with employees."

He'd still correct Kathy if she worked for him, though. She was never getting out of the student role with him.

Honestly? She didn't want to. She'd be happy being fifty and still benefiting from Eliot's Teachable Moments.

"I've never been one," Kathy confessed. "Well, I mean, I work for Barry's Ethics Committee, which means every so often I get to look at his latest project and then point out all the ways it could be used for evil. I get a paycheck--" A paycheck generous enough she felt bad about it, especially considering the amount of actual work she did. "--but it's not really the same thing."

Eliot shrugged. "Sounds real enough to me." Of course, as Nate would point out, it wasn't like the Leverage members were known for their 'real' job experience. "There are plenty of folks who get paid for consultancy work. And most of 'em don't even need to get taken down for bein' corrupt."

"Right, but I mean I've never gotten yelled at by my boss or had to worry about missing a shift or coming in late or whatever," Kathy said. "Considering I once threatened to wash my boss's mouth out with soap if he swore at me again, I feel like I might not have the best idea of what the typical employer-employee relationship looks like."

". . . Did you actually wash his mouth out?"

"Nah, Barry was pretty good about not swearing at me when he saw it bugged me," Kathy said. "He still swore a blue streak around me, but I didn't mind that as much."

"Damn," Eliot said. "Here I thought for a second you were way more hardcore."

Than a teenage vigilante superhero. Sure.

"I'm hardcore!" Kathy protested. "I mean, roughly about as hardcore as, like, balsa wood, but you know! That counts!"
