Computer Science- Monday- 1st period

The Danger Shop today looked a lot like a lab, with parts and computers all over.

"Today you're going to try your hand at creating an AI," Kitty told them. "Hopefully after last week you've had some thoughts about what you might want it to do, and not to do. There should be plenty of ~~moddable~~ stuff around for you to make it, and if you need help there are instructions and tips around. So get to work, and I'm here if you have questions."

Use the moddable parts, or pick up one of the tablets scattered around the room for tips if you need them. No, you don't have to be done by the end of class.

Four was fascinated by the idea and was taking his time as he carefully went through the process. He planned to continue it into his shift at Stark's on Friday.

Who's watching and hoping no one makes anything murderous.

Tali's body language hinted at a touch of unease when she approached Kitty; there was some tension in her shoulders, and she was fidgeting just a bit.

"Excuse me, Ms. Pryde?"

And then there was Kitty, the most casual ever. "Hey, what's up?"

To her credit, Tali was at least a lot less nervous than she would have been shortly after leaving the Fleet.

"I hate to ask this, but . . ." She tilted her chin up slightly. "I was wondering if it would be possible for me to opt out of the assignment today. It's . . . sort of a complicated situation for my people when it comes to AIs. I'm sure I can come up with something to make up for it, but actually creating one could be a problem."

"Oh. Yeah, that'd be fine," Kitty told her. "Would you be okay with a written assignment instead?"

"Absolutely," Tali said with a relieved laugh. "I could write you dozens of pages --" Tali, no -- "on the subject, as long as I don't actually create one, since the last thing we need is the Council finding a way to hold that against me somehow."

She was pretty sure they'd find a way to come up with some timeline-weirdness loophole if they had to.

"There's so no need to get you in trouble," she assured her, though she was totally curious about that. "How about you spend the class coming up with what you would do and how it could be implemented? Go as long as you want on the subject."

Hopefully not dozens of pages.

"That, I can definitely do," Tali promised, clearly a lot less worried now. "Just writing about creating an AI isn't illegal, and just to be on the safe side I won't go too far into the specifics."

Which should cut down on the potential page count!

"There you go. You're all set," Kitty smiled.

"That went easily enough," Tali said with a soft laugh. "I'll get to work on writing now, but I appreciate you letting me do this."

Writing class with a splitting headache, argh.
