[Tactics of War] Monday 6-8 PM

Eighth purses her lips and glares at her students as they file in.

“I hope you are all well and had a pleasant spring break. I apologizing for missing class two weeks previous but I see you survived my absence. ~~Pity~~.

Now, please pull out your notebooks and pay sharp attention and take good notes.”

She lectures on the English Civil War (called the Anarchy) between King Stephen and the Empress Maud which occurred around 1135 to 1154 A.D. It should easily be obvious who Eighth supports as the rightful ruler of England, especially considering her marriage choices and ability to form worthy allegiances with the right men.

She also tells the story of how Maud escapes from a besieged castle – once cloaked in white and lowered from a snowy tower wall and thus camouflaged and once carried out as a ‘corpse’ and easily whisked away to safety once passed the guards.

“Now, for your in class assignment – and do turn it in before leaving - I want for you to write three discussion points for next week’s class concerning the difficulties and challenges women leaders have in wartime. If, for example, you come from the background of Miss Sun where gender is irrelevant, please discuss examples from cultures that are not as enlightened as hers.

Also, I would appreciate it, Miss Carter, if you remained after class for a moment, thank you.”

Sam gasped for breath. Her knees weakened slightly and she almost fell to the floor. "Why?"

"All I want is to save them from my mistakes," she said, sadly, unaware Mac and Janet were even in the room.

"You're no martyr, Samantha Carter," she grumbles, turning to face the others in the room and gripping Sam close to her.

Mac tried to move to stop Eighth but was held up by the broken leg.
"Let her go Samantha! Now!"

Janet, however, had no broken leg to worry about. She raced to grab Sam and pull her away from Eighth. "Leave her alone!" she snapped.

"Take one step closer and I will kill her," she says quietly to the advancing Janet. She tightens her grip on Sam, a hand encircling her neck.

Sam struggled slightly in Eighth's grip, but was too weak to do much. "Leave..." she panted, unable to finish her thought.

"You kill her and I don't care what kind of thing you are," Mac threatened. "I'll tear you apart with a frickin' can opener."

Janet froze. She had no doubts that Eighth would do exactly what she'd said she would. "What do you want?" She glared at Eighth. She didn't need to bother threatening her. Eighth already knew what Janet would do to her if she harmed Sam.

"Let me pass," she says icily, taking two steps towards the door. "I have business to take care of. I don't particularly wish to harm any of you--" and her eyes linger on Mac's face, the ache of missing Jack almost overwhelming her for a moment. "So, get out of my way."

"Just let Sam go," Mac said with a grim look. "Then get the hell out."

Sam smiled slightly at Mac, then turned her head to lock eyes with Eighth. "If I go with you, if I let you kill me and finally have your revenge, will you leave them alone? Everyone?"

Janet might never forgive her for this one.

"Sam Carter, shut the hell up before I kill you myself!" snapped Janet.

"And you," said Janet, glaring at Eighth again. "You are not leaving this room with her. You say you don't wish to harm me? Then don't leave Sam alone."

Eighth laughed mirthlessly. "Move," she commanded, pulling Sam with her as she took three steps, griping the woman's neck tighter with each move.

Sam stumbled behind Eighth, gasping for air, unsure whether Eighth was taking her up on her offer.

Mac stands in front of the door and doesn't budge. He looks at Sam and swallows hard.

"Let her go. No one needs to die here."

Janet has her arms crossed and is standing in front of the door, her chin raised in the air as she looks up at Eighth. "I'm not foolish enough to believe you'll let her go unharmed if you take her with you." Her voice is hard. "There's no need to do this. Let Sam go."

"Let me pass," she says, sliding her fingers back into Sam's brain and showing her a continual image of herself shooting Jack in the heart before releasing her grip on Sam's consciousness. "I will not kill her if you LET ME PASS"

Sam screamed and closed her eyes against the image, not that it helped. "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Jack!" She began to sob.

"Let her go, damn it!" yelled Janet. "Let her go, and I'm out of your way! It's that easy."

"Come now, Sam, you're far too smart to allow a projected image affect you so much," she cooed into Sam's ear before showing a brief flash of it again.

Sam screamed again, then fell slightly to her right. Rationally, she knew it was a projection, but viscerally, Jack fell by her hand over, and over, and over again. She stopped screaming and began panting. She raised teary eyes to Eighth, the person least likely to grant her mercy. "Stop."

Mac couldn't take any more. He picked up his crutch and swung it at Eighth's head.

"LET HER GO!"

As the crutch whizzed through the air, Eighth snarled and flung Carter into Mac as hard as she could. Before she could watch them crash to the ground she threw herself towards the door, turning slightly to check if Janet was in pursuit.

"Sam!" exclaimed Janet, darting towards her. She threw a quick glance at Eighth, but didn't pursue her.

She'd give the SGC a call and let them deal with it. Right now, Sam needed her.

Snarling again, she turned to flee out the door, but not without leaving a quick present of acid, shooting out of her hands and hitting desks, wall, floor and Mac's cast. And she was gone.
