Practical Phys Ed, Monday, Period 3

Back in the Danger Shop today, although at least Fred had a real reason for it this time!

"Heya kids. So, the single most important thing you're going to learn here is how to throw a punch," Fred said. "Actually, that's the second most important thing. The first one is how to take a punch."

"Don't get me wrong! Dodging a punch is WAY better, but anyone can do that. A person's fist is only so big. Just don't have your face, stomach, or balls in the same space as the fist. You're done. And catching somebody's punch is badass, but it could smash your hand up. So don't do that."

Fred hit a button on the remote and a completely generic figure in red and blue - COMPLETELY GENERIC, it wasn't subconsciously influenced by anyone's costume - appeared. "So, throwing a punch. It's simple if you don't want to do it well."

Fred then went into some detail about throwing a punch, from the lazy swings some of you might take now to a really good punch that knocked the red and blue guy back.

"You're probably not knocking anyone out with one punch, but you can do some real damage. And then you have to figure out whether you're gonna keep fighting like a man, or run away like a man whose knuckles won't be sore in the morning. Sub in 'woman' for 'man' as necessary."

He punched another button and some boxing headgear appeared on his head. "On the other hand, if you're in a fight, guess what. You're gonna get hit. And when that happens, you have a bunch of options that might not always be in your control. You can get knocked out... again, probably not going to happen on one punch. You can get knocked down, which CAN happen because some people hit hard and it hurts. You can stand your ground and try to dodge the next one, protect yourself better, or counterpunch. Or you can be a cheap punk who takes the fact that a punch means a person is in close, and you can kick them in the balls. Or in the lady area if it's somebody without balls, and I have it on good authority that still hurts."

"And before you get all offended, just remember, she punched me first and she had superstrength. You do what you can when that's the case, unless you want a concussion and smashed in face."

"So... Ugh, I can't believe I'm doing this... I'm going to demonstrate for you."

The second he hit the remote, the red and blue guy hit him. In the helmet. Fred staggered back and the guy moved in to punch him in the chin. Again, Fred staggered back in the direction the punch took him. One more punch and Fred fell back... but on his descent, he kicked a leg up between the legs. The red and blue guy dropped to his knees above Fred, who grabbed his neck and pulled him in for a couple punches to the side of the head before pushing him away.

"So, I took a few good shots, but I'm not the one walking away with brain damage and a smaller percentage chance of having a kid."

"For your fun time activity today, everyone gets a helmet and a fake person to fight. Or you can partner up if you want to hit each other, but I'm not responsible if you do that, okay? Have fun."

Yeah, that was fun to watch, and Rey was only sort of trying to hide her smile with her hand.
