Library, Sunday
For a change, Face was not napping behind the service desk, because Cass had been kind of insistent about that, so instead he'd refilled the caf pot (again) and was rearranging the books on the 'Welcome Newbies' table again (some more).

Re: Talk to Face
"I am," he said, then "Are you Cassandra's friend?"
Yeah, Face's best behaviour probably wasn't quite up to standard.
Re: Talk to Face
Perhaps that wasn't the kind of greeting she would have expected, but being Cassandra's friend gave him a lot of leeway.
Re: Talk to Face
"Well, I'm Face, and I know exactly the kind of books you mean." Which was how he'd been able to spin a fictitious shirt allergy into a makeout session last week. "And where to find them."
Re: Talk to Face
Don't mention the makeout session, it would embarrass Lucille terribly.
Re: Talk to Face
"It's a nickname," And it wasn't like Garik was exactly a common name on this planet either. "Now, were you looking for any titles in particular, or did you just want to browse that section and see what catches your eye?"
Re: Talk to Face
"No specific titles," Lucille said. "I would like to browse." And look at the covers. There should be shirtless boys on them, even of that made her feel a little awkward. Especially, show now realized, when she had to ask a boy to check them out for her.
"Or, of you have any to suggest?" she added.
Re: Talk to Face
"You can't really go wrong with the shieldmaiden series," he said, getting up from behind the desk and heading towards the shelves in question. "It's Cass's favourite. Which she probably mentioned."
Re: Talk to Face
"The one with the shieldmaiden who tries to save her lover from a horrible affliction?" One that resulted in shiftlessness, she had been told. "I think I would like it."
Re: Talk to Face
After all, you couldn't stretch out a shirt allergy over that many books.
Re: Talk to Face
"Perhaps if there are other books too, I could borrow them as well? Sundays are good for reading, I find."
Re: Talk to Face
"You should be fine," he said with a grin. "There's not a lot of restrictions on borrowing from the general collections."
Re: Talk to Face
She added, with curiosity that might be noticeable to Face if he was perceptive: "Where are you from?"
Re: Talk to Face
"Lorrd," he replied. "Though I was born on Pantolomin. They're both in systems very far from here." And yet somehow a Core worlds accent bore a remarkable resemblance to a British one.

Re: Talk to Face
Face seemed friendly, and although that usually aroused her suspicion, she accepted it now because of Cassandra, and because of a shared passion for books.
Re: Talk to Face
"Pantolomin's a water world, lots of islands, reefs, beaches, tourists," he explained. "Lorrd's a lot more out of the way, more into universities and the arts, music, acting."
Re: Talk to Face
"Do you prefer one over the other?" she asked.
Re: Talk to Face
Re: Talk to Face
"Have you read this one?"
Re: Talk to Face
Re: Talk to Face
No, Lucille wasn't blushing.
Re: Talk to Face
So there wasn't a whole lot of plot there.
Re: Talk to Face
"I guess I shouldn't... I mean..."
Re: Talk to Face
Re: Talk to Face
"Oh, of course I can!" Lucille picked out a few other books at random, just so that it would seem less obvious.
"Thank you for your help. I very much appreciate it."
