Weapon Safety, Wednesday

When the students arrived at the Danger Shop today, they'd find it set up with a long row of fresh-looking training dummies, as well as a table with a variety of swords laid out.

"Hey guys. We're going to start off this class learning about some basic weapon types, and I figured the best one to start with would be swords," Sam said, grinning excitedly. "Ever since people figured out they could heat metal up and make something sharp, they've have been using those sharp metals to stab their enemies and defend themselves. If anyone's interested in some history of swords, I have a handout here, but I don't want to bore those of you who are here for more practical purposes." He knew not everyone was a nerd, it was all right.

"There are a few different types of swords here for you to practice with: we've got broadswords, fancier rapiers, and katanas for those who'd like to play with something a little less Western. If you don't have much experience, you can grab a sword and follow along with me, or you can go at one of the dummies on your own. This room will keep you from getting hurt, so don't be afraid to try and see what you can do."

Now Eggsy didn't go to the kind of school that taught fencing. So this was a new one.

But who didn't want to learn how to hit someone with a metal stick? He eyed the katana eagerly. Someone had seen Attack the Block, okay?

Mara came from a galaxy with space travel, so she didn't work with metal swords.

She used a lightsaber. Mwahaha. But she wasn't supposed to tell anyone that, so she listened attentively to the lecture and made notes on her handout.

Because she was also a huge nerd.

Tiny sword. Tiny sword. Tiny sword. Giant sword which Skaar could actually use. That one would be his today.

Mara was following along with Sam, and if her grip was far more familiar with a rapier than a true beginner's should be, she was definitely screwing up with the weight of the sword itself.

Lightsabers were lighter, kriff it.

Skaar knew what he was doing with a sword, but what he was mostly doing was swinging a massive blade while being incredibly strong and basically indestructible. He didn't have what anyone would call "finesse." So he watched and learned.

Ada was... well, Ada was trying.

The fact of the matter was that webbed fingers made holding a rapier practically impossible without severe pain after just a few moments, and the broadsword wasn't much better.

Luckily the katana, while not 'just right', didn't hurt so badly that she couldn't focus, and did her best to follow along with what Sam was doing.

Once he got the gist of what Sam was teaching, Skaar went ahead and destroyed a couple dummies. They weren't real. It's not like it would cost the school if he made a few shop-generated dummies explode from being sliced so hard.

Kaylin had quite a good time slicing up the dummies!
