Computer Science- Monday- 1st period

Kitty had a smaller class, so she'd done up the Danger Shop like a brightly-colored game show. Everyone got their own little podium with their name on it ala Jeopardy and everything.

"We were going to start on the fun stuff today, but there was something that came up last week a couple times that we should probably get into a little more first," Kitty greeted them. "And that is ethics!"

Did she do her best Vanna White as a giant neon sign reading "ETHICS!" lit up behind her? Of course she did, she was a huge dork.

"Some of what we're going to learn in this class could be kind of iffy," she said, more seriously. "If you're a good guy, you're doing things for the right reasons, and the bad guys do things for the wrong ones, right? But it's really easy to abuse this sort of thing when you can do it." She of course had once hacked into Genosha's security cameras, and knew how to get into SHIELD's systems if she really wanted to, so she knew something about that. "So today, you're going to get a pop quiz. I'm going to ask questions, and you're going to buzz in and tell me if you should do it or not, and why. Also it doesn't matter who buzzes in first and you can all answer the question if you want, but the buzzers are fun so I added them."

Or just find the podium with your name on it.

Buzz in and answer. Or answer off someone else's answer. Or buzz in for yourself. Basically do what you want and feel free to make it a big ol' mess.

"You found a loophole into the NSA's computer system. Do you go into it, or not, and why?"

"Yeah," Four said, "and then I write to tell them their problem so they can fix it." His lips quirked up. "I help run the system at home, and we can't find everything alone."

"Only if I know what I'm looking for," Cosima said. "If I go in and just start messing around, odds are I'm not going to get anything worthwhile and I might go to jail."

"I would make the loophole exclusive to me, in case I need it later." That... might not be all that good.

"I... would be too much of a chicken to mess with the NSA. You don't know what those guys are up to." Kira paused for a moment. "I mean, I guess I could find out, with the loophole but... no, I'd just tell them about it. Anonymously. From a different country maybe."

"Your friend's in a maximum security prison for hacking into something and getting caught, and you need his help. Do you break him out or not?"

"Sure," Four said. "And then I lecture him about not getting caught. Idiot."

"Yeah, probably," Cosima nodded. "I can turn him back in when we're done if he turns out to be an evil genius."

"Yes, but I would leave him back in once we are done." Kind of what they did with Porter...without the murder... or the brain tumor... actually maybe Laura shouldn't use her time with X-Force as an example for anything.

"Of course. I could never let a friend rot in prison for anything," Kira said simply.

"The Golden Globes are terrible. Do you spend your night trying to get into their system to put on dead air instead?"

Someone had been working on questions while watching last night, could you tell?

"Yes," Four said, nodding vehemently.

"Why not turn it off and do something else instead?" Cosima asked. "It's kind of wrong to decide you don't like it so nobody gets to watch it either. People have the right to bad taste, you know?"

"No. I do not care." Seriously.

"Dear god, yes. While also maybe hacking into a system that can prevent someone from ever hosting again?" Kira suggested.

"...You know I'm pretty sure that really would get into some morally dubious stuff but I'm down for it," Kitty admitted.

"You know robbers are secretly diverting funds from a bank's systems to steal it. You have the ability to re-divert the funds into your own accounts to stop them from getting it. Do you do it?"

"Why can't I just divert it back into the bank?" Four asked.

Four was not exactly cut out for a life of crime.

"The bad guys will notice more easily if the money they're trying to steal keeps funneling back," Kitty made up.

"But they won't notice me?" Four checked.

"Not until it's all done, no," Kitty decided.

"Well, then I'm just another robber," Cosima pointed out. "So no."

"What if you could put the money back in the bank afterwards?" Kitty asked.

"Then I guess stealing it from the thieves would be better than just letting them have it," Cosima conceded. "I can't call the bank and let them know what's going on or anything?"

"It's an option. But you'd have some explaining to do," Kitty said.

"I would track them down and force them to return it."

Violently.

"Artificial intelligence: yay or nay?"

Kitty had some fairly recent experience with this and was more curious as to their answers than anything.

"Nay," Four said. "We're screwed up enough as a species without creating another species."

"Yay," Cosima said. "It's the next logical step in human evolution."

"Depends on what you mean by that."

She had some knowledge on the subject, so.

"A machine that's given a brain, basically," Kitty clarified. "Is it a good idea?"

"If it thinks like a human, then yes. If it thinks like a machine, then no."

"Yay! I think it'll be awesome!" Kira said, bouncing.

It's early, but she's chipper mostly because you can't be down during a game show.

There might be a lot of "It works on TV" type of computing in this class la la.
