One week into the new semester and nothing had exploded, that could mean only good things ahead. Also the inevitable explosion, because there was always an inevitable explosion.

But while they were waiting for that, Face had set up a few book displays and was reaping the rewards of his labour. Yeah, he was napping again.

This time, Cassandra did not clear her throat as she entered.

Rather, she walked in quietly, came to a stop in front of the counter.

"Garik."

Did she need to be that loud? Probably not.

No, you did not, Cass.

"'m awake." Face blinked owlishly.

"Apparently," Cassandra said dryly.

"Completely awake," Face repeated. "And you have my full attention."

He thought the charming grin went well with the rumpled hair at least.

He was rather adorable, but Cassandra was on a mission today.

"I have made a friend," she announced. "She may stop by during one of your shifts. Please do not sleep through the visit, Garik."

This was important.

"I'll be on my nest behaviour," Face promised her. "This doesn't have anything to do with the note I got for my last broadcast?"

"... Perhaps," Cassandra said, after a beat. That had been on Garik's broadcast day, had it not--? Maker. "... it depends on the content of the note."

It had, which explained the grin.

"It said something about reading in your armour," Face teased gently. "Which, I can think of other outfits you could be reading in."

"I had been patrolling," Cassandra said, flushing. "I wanted a short break."

"A short break with a tragic shirt allergy?"

And now she was blushing more. Thanks, Garik. "It is a very good book," she argued.

It was not. It was terrible.

It was terrible. Of course, Face knew that because he's also read it.

"You know, I think I might be coming down with that terrible space disease," he said, eyes wide and earnest.

"Garik," Cassandra said sharply (while, at this point, being red as a tomato), "Not in the library!"

... elsewhere. Elsewhere would be fine, though.

Face was so very, very innocent as he asked "So you don't want to check?"

"We are in public," she hissed.

There was no one else there, so it was anyone's guess why she was suddenly whispering.

Because unlike her boyfriend, she had a functioning sense of shame?

Face clasped his hand dramatically to his forehead. "I guess I'll just suffer then."

Sometimes it felt her sense of shame had increased to compensate for his insufficiency.

"It is nearly lunch time," Cassandra said. "If it is so important, you can take a... break."

Ahem.

"It is a medical emergency," Face said, nodding solemnly. "It'd be terrible if there was an outbreak of this space shirt allergy."

Certain members of the student body, both female and male, might disagree.

Cassandra shut her eyes and pinched the bridge of her nose. "Ugh," she said, as the red in her face receded. "Come on, then."

Face grinned and pushed his chair back. "Lead on, my lady," he said with a bow.

Cassandra let out a sigh, putting one hand on her hip (because the alternative would be to grab for his and that felt rather embarrassing at the moment). "You are the picture of courtesy."

"I do my best." Best to drive her to distraction, maybe.

"Best of what, I wonder," Cassandra muttered, walking towards the exit.

"Being adorable and charming?" Face suggested as he followed her.

"Debatable," Cassandra said.

Mind you, that didn't mean that the moment she was outside in the hall, she didn't turn around to face him and reach for his hand.

"You mean I'm not adorable and charming?" Face was hurt, truly hurt. Really.

"Only when you do not think you are," Cassandra informed him.

Leaning in to kiss him after that was probably reinforcing the wrong message.

Definitely, but Face was certainly not going to point that out when it might mean an end to the kissing.

The sad thing was that Cassandra was so immediately distracted by her own decision that she didn't even realize she'd slid her hands under Face's shirt until she broke away.

She might have forgotten about the 'still in public' part.

But the hallway outside the library was a totally different kind of in public to the library itself, but again Face was wise enough not to point that out.

He'd just be grinning like an idiot, instead.

Cassandra let out a soft, pleased sigh.

Then she realized where she was. "... Your room, Garik."

"Yes, right way." Odd how amenable to some orders he was.

Possibly a thing.
