Around the World in 16 Challenges, Tuesday, January 7, 2016 [2nd period]

Anakin and Obi-Wan had made sure to tell the class to meet them outside the Portalocity office. Anakin, hands stuffed into his robes to protect them from the cold (kriffing cold, ugh), still managed to look a little smug. "Hello and welcome to Around the World in 16 Challenges," he said. "Today we're going to the Netherlands, a small nation on the continent of Europe."

"Since he appears to have skipped right ahead: this is Master Anakin Skywalker. I am Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. Welcome." Obi-Wan looked rather more at ease with the cold, though he generally kept his hands tucked in his sleeves regardless. (He also had a far better poker face than Anakin's.) "Your first series of challenges will take place here," he continued, "and you will handle them by yourself. Later challenges may contain a teamwork component; for that, we ask that you find a teammate today with whom you share a RL availability will cooperate for the rest of the semester."

Anakin nodded, smile widening. "The odd one out gets paired with one of us."

Oh, you poor things. "This course will test you both physically and mentally and help you to confront fears about heights, hitting things, and eating things that are still moving." Anakin, that is not helpful.

And as such, Obi-Wan cleared his throat very loudly midway through that statement. "It will hopefully also lead you to appreciate this particular planet and its many cultures," he said, "So please, do try to enjoy yourselves as well."

"Today's challenges will test your attention to detail, your hand-eye coordination, and your ability to navigate yourself to different places," Anakin said, nodding. "We will be waiting for you at the end of the course. May the Force be with you."

And then the bike locks and the dike jumping! Because getting people muddy was hilarious.

... and the canal tour with the light sculptures, because not everything had to be mud, Anakin. Obi-Wan gave the class a formal nod of his head. "Begin."

Oh, shoot, the Judgy Dean (or so was the impression Hannibal has given her of Anakin) was her teacher.

Laura was stiffer than usual, and was that even possible? Apparently. It had nothing to do with the cold, considering she was dressed in relatively skimpy clothes.

Eggsy looked around at his classmates for who might be a good partner. Even though he'd probably end up slowing them down by getting into fights.

Deal with it.

Why would Cosette have a bad feeling about it? This looked like it was going to be fun!

Honestly, no one should be this optimistic.

Kaylin was here a little late. As usual.

The hardest part of the challenge for Nathan was figuring out the technology involved with the digital camera. It took awhile but once he picked it up, he was able to take the pictures fairly quickly.

Easy. Laura had been expecting something more challenging, like fighting surprise attacks around the sculptures, but apparently all she had to worry about was water.

Not being one to resist temptation Isabela started collecting wallets from her fellow non-classmate passengers.

...and photos. Yes, those.

It took a few rounds because of all the wallets photos.

Oh, as if it was any kind of hardship whatsoever, expecting Cosette to go around and take pretty pictures of things.

. . . she might have gotten a little carried away with that, actually.

Sadly, April was preoccupied with looking for river monsters - force of habit. It took her a very long time to complete the task. But the lights were so pretty!

Thankfully, the picture Kira missed taking was close to the beginning, so she didn't have far to go back. The lights were so pretty though that she didn't mind.

Eggsy, somehow, managed to get all the pictures taken without any sort of delay. Somehow.

It seriously was a miracle.

What slowed Rey down was the camera, since she'd never used anything like it before, and the technology was not what she was used to. It helped when she decided they hadn't said they needed good pictures.

It took Alex a little bit to get used to the challenge and she only had to start over twice but once she got going, she found taking the pictures wasn't to bad.

As long as no one wanted good photos of the light sculptures, Blue was good to go. She did get a little distracted by the scenery, but it still only took her about a turn and a half around to get everything she needed.

Easy. Noticing was what she did.

Well, of things anyway.

Re: Road Block: Bikes or Dikes!

[identity profile] halfbad.livejournal.com 2016-01-07 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Nathan chose the Dikes challenge and almost changed his mind when he realize what he had to do. Again, it took him some time to comprehend the whole thing but he eventually got got it down.

The vault was a little easier but he was completely caked in mud by the time he was done.

Re: Road Block: Bikes or Dikes!

[identity profile] ungue.livejournal.com 2016-01-07 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Laura chose Dikes. Laura had never heard of fierljeppen, but since it was a thing of speed, balance and body control she knew what she had to do before someone explained to her.

For a moment, she considered getting a bit of mud on herself to make it look like she had at least struggled a bit, but ultimately decided she actually liked the shoes she was wearing. No mud for her.

Nathan didn't think he was last but he knew he wasn't first. He'd managed to get the mud off his face but his clothes were pretty well covered in it.

The mud had not been Obi-Wan's idea.

Or if it had, one could not tell by his entirely placid expression.

The real-life canal tour comes with food and mulled wine, and in this country, it is PROBABLY FOGGY and you'll have to clean the water off the windows all the time to be able to see shit.

Mmm, canal tours.
