Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Picnic-ing in January - still not the best idea ever! But there were tables and chairs set up in the sun, and a nice bonfire going, and plenty of warm food for everyone to encourage socializing for as long as possible.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"What kind of school would we be without a library?" Raven asked. "Not sure about the music room, but there's a music store on the island that can probably help you out. What do you play?"

"The piano," Lucille replied. She would have to find the library, and that would surely keep her occupied. "Do you play?"

Did blue girls who sounded like they had had a proper upbringing been taught to play the piano?

[In my head I had replied to this...]

[I have been there]

"Not well," Raven said cheerfully. "My foster mom tried to make me take lessons once, because 'a proper society lady should have hobbies', but I scared the teacher away and she stopped trying."

The two weren't entirely connected. Charles made his mom forget Raven had scared the teacher off, and Mrs. Xavier managed to forget the whole idea of piano lessons completely. She also often managed to forget Raven, so it wasn't surprising.

At least that was something Lucille could understand. While she herself enjoyed playing, there were other accomplishments expected of a young lady that she cared less about.

"I assume you have other pastimes, then," she said. "I will look for the library, though, and see what the collection is like."

Raven nodded. "Let me know if you need help finding anything," she offered. "And watch out for the librarian. He's a little rough around the edges."

He wasn't blue, but his dialog could be.

"I... will keep that in mind," Lucille said, wondering what 'rough around the edges' would mean in a place like this.

Despite her unfortunate disfiguring illness, Raven did seem like a nice, well-mannered girl, and one useful to know, so Lucille decided she could overlook the blue skin.

"Good," Raven said, then sat up straight as she realized the trouble with offering assistance while wearing her natural form. "Um, just so you know, though, I don't always look like this. In case you go looking and can't find the blue girl, sometimes --" she shifted, keeping the dramatics to a minimum -- not that that changed the fact of 'blue girl changing shape' at all. "Sometimes I'm a blonde."

Of all the things she had seen today that was the strangest and most disturbing. Lucille was better prepared now at least, but her eyes widened and she just fell silent.

Raven was pretty sure she'd seen that expression before. There might've been a bit of adrenaline kicking into gear in her system, though she kept her expression neutral. "Just, you know," she said. "So you know."

"I appreciate..." the warning "...that you let me know."

She wasn't going to ask how that was possible, at least not today.

"I find it helps cut down on confusion." Or the pitchforks, at least. "I'll see you around, Lucille."
