Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Picnic-ing in January - still not the best idea ever! But there were tables and chairs set up in the sun, and a nice bonfire going, and plenty of warm food for everyone to encourage socializing for as long as possible.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Yes, Mabel was here! Yes, Mabel's pig, Waddles, was also here!

And yes, it was entirely possible that she came to the picnic with a purse at her side that was stuffed full of puffy stickers to hand out to the new kids. All of them with terrible puns on them. Some of them with scratch-n-sniff scents for good measure.

Mabel liked to celebrate newbie day in style.

This was probably also why Mabel and Waddles were both wearing matching pink shutter shades.

A pig? Who brought a pig to school? She must be a farm girl, but Lucille sincerely hoped she wasn't going to keep it indoors. She gave the pig a somewhat disgusted look, however, and hoped it wouldn't come anywhere near her.

Oh, Mabel saw that look, Lucille. She saw that look, and she was going to counter it with a bright smile and a chipper wave hello before making her way over. Followed, yes, by the pig.

"Hi! You look new, have a sticker!"

Sorry, Lucille. You were on Mabel's 'to be befriended come hell or high water' list now. That was just how it was going to be.

The farm girl was heading her way, with the pig in tow. Lucille drew her skirts tighter around her legs. It was, however, beneath her to be rude to the lower classes, so she nodded in greeting and offered a tense smile.

"Thank you, miss," he said. "A sticker? How... delightful." What was a sticker, and was she to do anything with it?

Waddles took a seat down by Mabel's feet, looking up at Lucille curiously. He was pretty meticulously clean, owing to the fact that Mabel fawned over him like he was her whole world. And well-behaved, too.

He was a pretty mellow pig.

"The name's Mabel," Mabel introduced, reaching into her purse and pulling out a puffy sticker with a very dapper glass of milk on it. A milk mustache, (https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/cc/cd/6a/cccd6aede4b24e7795c1f7ab231fb23a.jpg) more accurately. She took a moment to peel the back off, and then held it out for Lucille to take. "And Waddles and I are here to wish a warm Fandom welcome to the new kids!"

The pig might be clean, but it was still a pig. Lucille kept an eye on Waddles, making sure he didn't come to close.

"Thank you. My name is Lucille Sharpe." She accepted the sticker, which, unsurprisingly enough, stuck to her finger, and frowned a little. "What is one supposed to do with these?"

"Pleased to meet you, Lucille," Mabel chirped, and then pushed her shades up to rest on the top of her head, smiling pleasantly. "And you stick them to things! Like the nametags, but you put them on whatever you want. That way, it'll... it'll have a sticker on it!"

That was it. That was basically what stickers had going for them, right there.

The sticker was still stuck on Lucille's limp hand. "I see. And where do you suggest I put this?"

Lucille decided then and there that she didn't need any stickers. Or pigs staring at her. Because wasn't that pig staring?

Aw, Waddles was just hoping you would get him something from the food tables!

... And also staring, a bit.

"Oh, I don't know. On your cheek or on a bag if you have one, or on your schoolbooks to make them less boring. Stickers can go on all kinds of things!"

"Mabel!" Mabel (and Waddles) were now getting an enthusiastic wave from Ringo. "How have you been? Did you have a good break?"

Re: General Mingling [Spring 2016]

[identity profile] rhymeswithtable.livejournal.com 2016-01-02 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ringo, hi!" Mabel grinned and gave Ringo a wave in turn! Waddles... sat there. He grunted at the familiar face, at least. That had to count for something, right? "Our break was pretty relaxed! We just stuck around here, mostly, and once the weird visions and stuff went away, everything was just fine. How about you?"
soniaroadsqueen: (seriously)

Ringo figured that was a pretty friendly response from Waddles, so she grinned back at the pig. "I went home to Tokyo this week, and it was really good seeing my sisters again." Her smile twitched. "Even if I did get a lecture."

[identity profile] rhymeswithtable.livejournal.com 2016-01-02 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"A lecture?" Uh-oh! "What was there to lecture you on?"

Family lectures were some of the worst. Hopefully Ringo's family wasn't as know-it-all as some of Mabel's could sometimes be.

Actually, Ringo had secretly kinda liked it. It was good to be reminded her sisters cared.

"I, um, sort of didn't do some AT stuff I should have been doing since I got to Fandom?" Whoops?

[identity profile] rhymeswithtable.livejournal.com 2016-01-02 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oopsie!

"Oooh," Mabel replied, knowingly. "Homework, but away from home. What kind of stuff? Is there anything I can help you with?"
soniaroadsqueen: (straight at you)

"So to really stay at the top of your game with AirTrek, you have to do a thing called Tuning. And I kind of, um, haven't been? So my sisters made me do it while I was back, so I should be good for a bit?"

Ringo grinned. "But thanks for offering!" That was just like Mabel.

[identity profile] rhymeswithtable.livejournal.com 2016-01-02 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hey, any time," Mabel replied, grinning. "I am to please! Or, uh, assist. I'm pleased when I can help?"

Hooboy.

"I like helping!"

That would do.

[identity profile] ungue.livejournal.com 2016-01-03 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Laura passed by the odd couple, and stopped to kneel next to the pig, a somewhat appreciative expression on her face. It was hard to tell, considering she looked pretty impassive all the time.

It was a nice pig, though, shades and all.

[identity profile] rhymeswithtable.livejournal.com 2016-01-03 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Waddles wasn't just a nice pig. Waddles was the best pig. Mabel had plenty of experience and could confirm this without hesitation.

"Hi," she said, giving Laura a smile and a warm wave hello. Waddles, meanwhile, gave Laura a curious little oink in greeting. "You must be new, huh? Welcome to Fandom!"

[identity profile] ungue.livejournal.com 2016-01-03 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Laura decided she was going to pet the pig. Good pig. Nice pig.

Usually, Laura would stay away from younger people, but Waddles made for a nice buffer. "Hello. I am new, yes. My name is Laura. It is nice to meet you." And she did mean it, because the pig had been a nice change of pace.

[identity profile] rhymeswithtable.livejournal.com 2016-01-03 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Ooo, Waddles was going to soak up that attention, leaning his little piggy head a bit to better accommodate the petting, and giving a few contented grunts for good measure.

"I'm Mabel, and this is Waddles," Mabel introduced, gesturing to the pig. "And it's nice to meet you, too!"

If Laura seemed a little... flat? Empty? Mabel really didn't seem to notice or care. Sometimes people just couldn't help that sort of thing, after all, and Laura was being nice to Waddles. That automatically made her cool in Mabel's book.

In fairness, it wasn't hard to be cool in Mabel's book.

"Would you like a welcome sticker, Laura?"

They were puffy!

[identity profile] ungue.livejournal.com 2016-01-03 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Something that could be seen as a smile under the right light and position menaced to creep on Laura's lips for a moment there. Woah, careful. "Mabel and Waddles", she repeated.

The offer confused her a bit, but she shrugged softly. "I have nowhere to put it."

[identity profile] rhymeswithtable.livejournal.com 2016-01-03 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, Laura. You were about to learn so much about the glory of stickers.

"Sure you do," Mabel said, pulling a sticker of a potato sitting on a couch (GET IT?) out of her purse and picking the back off of it before sticking it to her own cheek. "Stickers can go anywhere. You can relocate it to somewhere else once you get tired of having a sticker on your face, you know?"

Another moment of rummaging, and Mabel found a sticker of a pig wearing a karate outfit. A pork chop, if you will. Proudly, she held it out for Laura. Since she clearly liked pigs, and all.

[identity profile] ungue.livejournal.com 2016-01-03 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Laura knew a lot of things about a lot of things. Stickers really weren't part of her upbringing, unless it was how to use the ones with sharp edges as chance weapons.

She accepted the one handed to her though; Mabel probably didn't know this, but Laura was going to treasure it fiercely. "Thank you", she said. "I have nothing to give you in return."

[identity profile] rhymeswithtable.livejournal.com 2016-01-03 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, you don't need to worry about that," Mabel replied, waving a dismissive hand. "You made Waddles happy, see? I think that totally deserves a sticker. And you're new, and in a new place, and sometimes things like that are just sticker occasions!"

There were few occasions that were not sticker occasions, if you asked Mabel.
