Library, Saturday

If Elsa looked a little out of sorts as she made her way into the library, it was because she'd been treated to nightmares of days long past, of a little sister who was so far gone that she wasn't even shivering from the cold. She'd woken up with tears on her face, only to be met with a knock on her door, and a tentative, "Elsa?"

It had happened a few times that morning while she'd tried to pull herself together. Every time, she went and actually opened the door. She was going to do things differently. She was going to do things right by Anna.

Every time, there was nobody at the door.

The first thing she did when she got to the library, then, was put on hot water for tea. The next thing she did was try to figure out the coffee maker. And the third thing she did was make a beeline for a stack of books, because at least if she was busying herself with being useful, then the barrage of emotions that was hitting her like a sack of bricks would maybe, maybe dull a little.

Spoiler: It didn't.

[OOC: The library is open for all your BDE Researching needs!]

Lottie looked over the list thoughtfully, then added:

NIGHTSTALKER -- creepy old man who eats last hopes. Gets bigger more he eats. Eventually turns into giant floating walnut.

This was accompanied by two little cartoony illustrations, of the nightstalker in human and walnut forms.

Somethin' that looked like zombies but fast an' covered in electricity? Are techno-zombies a thing? Cause, if so techno-zombies. That run.

Hardison was not particularly fond of being outside right now.

"Techno-zombies." Lottie nodded approvingly. "Well descriptive."

Hardison had just decided to print out the article he'd discovered and post it up on the whiteboard. It was an article from 1990. Specifically, Christmas Eve of 1990.

"CULT MURDER-SUICIDE IN LOCAL TOWN
GLASGOW - The citizens of the township of Glasgow, WI have been found dead in a gruesome scene in the town square. The citizens appeared to have turned on each other. A series of warnings were dismissed by local police as 'prank calls' in the days leading up to the massacre. Several citizens of the town called the nearby station to complain about 'feeling several things at once', 'sensing the anger of their neighbors', 'feeling unusual empathy'. Some also claimed to be psychic. Demands were made of nearby churches to come and exorcise what locals claimed were 'evil spirits'. The FBI suspects the town fell prey to a cult."

He highlighted the sentence about empathy and feelings and underlined the words 'massacre' and 'found dead'. Apparently, the stakes were a lot higher than just being haunted and feeling what everyone else did.

Sam set the book against the whiteboard and drew arrows towards it. Then, above the arrows, he wrote The library thinks this is important. Memories of the past = ghost of the past?

Sam was already pretty empathetic to the feelings of others, so actually feeling those feelings was... pretty damn awful, and he'd made a mental note to hug every actual empath he knew for what they clearly had to deal with all the time.

He'd thought that coming to the library and researching the creatures that were wandering around would be helpful, but every time he pulled a book off of a shelf, another book flew off of the shelf at him. The first few times, he got smacked in the chest, sighed, and stuffed the book back onto the shelf. He tried to duck once, and got a book to the throat, and when he finally got smacked in the face he hit his limit. "Okay, I get it!" he yelled, snatching the book up and holding onto it.

That was probably a little louder than he needed to be inside, but the book had totally started it.

He was coping decently enough with the weirdness, but that didn't stop Face dove into the research to distract himself, of course, given that this apparently had something to do with the upcoming holiday which he still called it not-Life-Day in his head, first he'd had to figure out where to start. Eventually he'd settled on a massive tome on traditional Christmas traditions.

Some hours later, he was (still) paging through it when he found a scrap of paper wedged in there. Curious, he picked it up and started reading. "Five days gone. 3x spirits rampant. Many lost. Solution found. All works moved to...oh, sithspit."

Lottie usually preferred to do her investigating in the field. But even in Tackleford, the field usually had rather a lot less horrifying killer monsters in it. So she decided her talents were best utilized in the library.

The fact that this was much more Shauna's domain didn't make the melancholy dreams she'd had last night about missing her friends back home any easier to deal with. But Lottie had never been one to let gloom hold her down for long.

So, Hardison had been chased halfway to the school by creepy zombies. Which, first of all, they could run which had been offensive all on its own. Secondly, they were techno-zombies, which was even more offensive because technology should never be used to bring zombies to life. It just shouldn't.

In all, though, Hardison reeeeeeally didn't want to walk back to the apartment if there were going to be zombies lurking about. Or demons. Or scary flying things. So rather than heading home after he'd pinned the article up on the whiteboard, he settled into a chair with his laptop. He might have better gear and equipment back at his place, but staying here meant running into a lot fewer monsters that wanted to eat him. And that was important.

He was indeed about, if tending to stick to his office to try and keep any of his issues from leaking out on to other people.

Constantine could be considerate sometimes. Who knew?
