Don't Be Stupid, Friday, 1st Period

They were back in an ordinary classroom this week, with Cara leaning up against the desk.

"It's the start of Parent's Weekend so I'm going easy on you this week." They could all thank her later. "Especially since the weekend itself will be an exercise in avoiding stupidity for those of you with troublesome guests. So we're just going to have two discussion questions today. The first is about what kind of plans you might have made to avoid your guests figuring out this island is completely insane, those of you who either have no guests, or whose guests don't care about it, can figure out ways to help your less fortunate classmates."

She grinned at them. It wasn't reassuring. "Once you're done with that, then you all get to come up with ways it could all go wrong. If you've been here a while, you know some of the things that could happen. Try and figure out how you'd deal with those kind of things happening."

You can't possibly have worse guests than she did that one time.

Kathy was just going to...put her head down on the desk and try not to groan out loud. Her plan for avoiding island strangeness was currently somewhere around 'fake a heart attack and hope for the best.'

How are you going to distract your guests from the weird.

Alternatively, how might you lend a helping hand in hiding the weird?

Ringo actually had to think about this one, but after doing so she realized she could help people out. "I guess I could not do any AirTrek on the island for the weekend?" It'd be kind of hard to miss her, after all, and kind of hard to explain her away, too.

What's the very worst thing that might derail your plans?

How might you cope with some of these things.

"Well, last time I got bit by a gremlin and sang a provocative song," Kathy said. "And my parents were going to drag me out of school and back home, but my sister took the fall for me. And the worst part is, I can think of so many other ways that things could go worse this time."

So many. So many. The island didn't lack in ways to mess with people.

The worst thing that might derail your plans? How about your girlfriend showing up to lounge in the doorway towards the end of class, and making faces at your back every time you turn around?

Considering Cara's plans involved a lot of sprawling on the couch when she wasn't training, she wasn't exactly upset about them being derailed.

"I know you're there." Which was totally why you got ambushed by her so much, Cara.

"Yes, for lo, I am the Queen of Subtlety," Surreal deadpanned, rolling her eyes. "Forgive me, wise teacher of students, for not trying to sneak up on you during class and stab you in the kidney."

She paused for a moment, as if thinking about it. "I could go out and come back in and try it, if you'd prefer."

SURREAL, NO.

But then all her students could learn a valuable lesson about about not antagonising your girlfriend who liked stabbing things.

"Too late, you've lost the element of surprise."

Surreal grinned; a wild, feral gleam, and then pulled a sight shield around herself and vanished from view.

Cara sighed and waited for the inevitable.

At least she was reasonably sure Surreal wouldn't actually stab her. Reasonably.

In this case, the inevitable would be Surreal air-walking up to above Cara's head by a few feet, and then dropping a nutcake on her head.

Because Surreal was caring like that.

Cara appreciated the crumbs in her hair, really she did.

Catching the nutcake before it fell into her cleavage, she reached up to try and catch her ankle. Which pretty much looked like wild flailing at thin air.

Surreal tucked her legs up under herself, so that she was sitting cross-legged. "I'm sorry, what was that about losing the element of surprise?" she asked sweetly, trying to drop the nutcake directly into Cara's cleavage this time (sorry, students). "Have you checked your fridge yet?"

No, Surreal hadn't raided it. Yet. But Cara didn't know that.

Joke was on Surreal, the fridge was empty right now.

Cara glared at the offending nutcake lodged between her breasts. "Clearly I underestimated your desire to win the argument," said the pot to the kettle.

"Nyaaaah," came the totally emotionally mature response from the empty air. "Never underestimate a woman with a knife!"

Beat.

"Or two, or three, or a garrote..."

Cara sighed. Again. Louder. "I'm very sorry I made fun of your ability to creep up on people."

It helped if you sounded sincere, Cara.
