Cosette liked to think she got along with the books in the library -- and at this point she could entertain such a thought without stopping to wonder if such a statement was absurd -- but it still caught her by surprise when she came in to find a couple of shelves' worth of books on first aid and safety clustered around by the door, as if they were waiting for her.

She had a suspicion that they were worried about her class today, but since it was (in her opinion) an entirely silly concern, she wasn't going to indulge it.

"Back to your proper places now," she told them sternly, because they started rustling loudly in protest as soon as she started piling them onto a cart. "Yes, I know perfectly well where to find you if I need you, don't you think I'd know that by now? But what if someone else has need of you?"

That seemed to mollify them, at least. Cosette couldn't help giving them an affectionate pat once she'd replaced them on the shelves; it was nice of them to be concerned, even if it was a bit smothering.
