Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were tables and chairs set up all around the lawn. Some were in the sun, where folks could work on their tan while they ate, and some were in the shade where folks could stay cool and non-crispy.

All of the tables had some blue and gold glitter scattered across them, because there was always enough to go around. This school certainly was blesesed in all the right ways.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Nah, Bitty works for yah." Eggsy, no.

Oh, god, he was going to be stuck with that now, wasn't he? He made an exasperated face at Eggsy. "What, exactly, are you implying?"

Yeeeeeep.

"That you're itty-bitty. No implying at all."

And Eggsy, naturally, just towered over Eric, of course. "I am not that short!"

"Short enough, Bitty."

The more he protested, the more he was being called that.

"Shorter than you, you mean."

"That too." Which meant something.

"So, why the States?" ~~Bitty~~ Eric was just going to change topics rapidly and hope Eggsy went with it, because there was really only so much ribbing about his height he could take, here.

Oh, you.

"Dunno. Said we got a scholarship." Which seemed like a lie at the time.

Eric snorted. "And you just... packed up and moved yourself halfway across the globe on a scholarship you sound terribly certain about?" Okay, that took guts, he'd admit that much. Well, guts and a little crazy, in Eric's opinion.

"Nah, me mom did the packing and sending." And he took it as a chance to get the hell away from Dean.

"Oh," Eric said, coloring slightly as he realized he might have put his foot in it just a little. His own trip to Fandom had been of his own making, although Coach had agreed readily enough that getting out of Madison was a good 'character building' exercise. "But you're okay with everything so far?" Sure, Eggsy looked like he might be a couple years older, but Eric was a mother-hen by nature.

"Better than it coulda been, yeah?" Eggsy replied. "Coulda been on of those juvie institutes.

"No!" Eric's hands (now pizza-free, thank you) flew to his mouth in surprise. "Wait, really?"

"Yeah, really." HOW NAIVE WERE YOU, KID?

He was approximately 85% sunshine and rainbows, thank you, but on the other hand...

"As someone who has spent a significant amount of time being beat up and stuffed in to lockers, I consider myself a pretty decent judge of character," Eric declared. "And potential stay in a 'juvie institute' or not, I'd still take my chances with you than, say, any member of Madison's football team." And he'd known Eggsy for a grand total of like, twenty minutes.

Eggsy had seen enough television to assume Eric probably meant that boring as hell American football there.

"They actually do that sorta thing here?" Again, he assumed it was TV only that did that. He was used to a good ol' fashioned beat down instead.

"They really, really do," Eric confirmed. "I mean, not here," he said, with a sweeping gesture meant to indicate the school grounds. "But back home."

"Next time someone tries that, you hit 'em in the bollocks." Thanks for the advice, Eggsy. Thanks.

Well, it would be sound enough advice were Eric not too terrified of confrontation to actually try it. "We've only just met, so it's understandable that you might, but I feel like you're grossly overestimating my ability to fight back," Eric replied.

And Eggsy was going to end up feeling protective of the kid. Of course he was.

"Not that hard to do, y'know."

"For you, maybe." Eric was hardly frail, figure skating was a physically demanding sport, but it wasn't exactly a confrontational one.

Well. Not physically, anyway. The backstabbing was usually of the metaphorical, verbal kind.
