Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were tables and chairs set up all around the lawn. Some were in the sun, where folks could work on their tan while they ate, and some were in the shade where folks could stay cool and non-crispy.

All of the tables had some blue and gold glitter scattered across them, because there was always enough to go around. This school certainly was blesesed in all the right ways.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Mara grinned. "A worthy task. I'm not exactly the greatest slicer myself. Go with your strengths, right?"

"And mine involve looking pretty and serving caf."

"Well, I didn't want to be the one to say it," Mara teased. "What else did you do this summer?"

"Well, Cassandra."

Beat.

"I mean, Cassandra and me. That's kind of a thing now."

Mara was an amazing actress, though she'd never admit to it, because her smile was wide and genuine to hear that.

"Congratulations! I'm glad you're happy."

"Thanks," Face said. "It's kind of weird, but nice, dating someone without Imperial PR setting it up."

"You mean those weren't real?" Mara's eyes went comically wide. "My whole world is crashing around me."

"You didn't notice the messages I was sending with my clothing?" Face asked. "'Save me from this awkwardness!'"

Mara laughed. "I thought you just had terrible taste in shirts."

That might have also been a factor.

"They were cunningly coded communiqués."

"And here I'd always thought those fans were just insane," Mara said. "I misjudged them so harshly."

She grinned. "Does that mean you also got Wynssa Starflare pregnant with triplets?"

"To be fair, none of them were very good at decoding the messages."

Face sighed dramatically. "Alas no, last I heard she was with some Imperial fighter jock."

"A Fel, right?" Mara said, frowning. "Maybe?"

"Something like that, a Corellian at least."

Mara wrinkled up her nose. "I don't think I could date a Corellian. They're so...scruffy and egotistical."

Well, the good news was that she was likely to avoid such a terrible fate...

"But they're such good pilots." Face knew what he liked, and it was vaguely terrifying women and pilots.

Marrying someone from Tatooine. Ugh. Tatooine.

"True," Mara said. "Stand near one for thirty seconds and they'll tell you all about it. They have endless pilot euphemisms."

Someone from Tatooine that Face was one day going to hit on...because he such a good pilot.

"Pilots need to know how to handle their sticks," he immediately quipped, just in case she hadn't already realised he had no shame.

...well, he would be pretty cute. Fine.

Mara gave him a wide-eyed innocent look. "But I don't have a stick, so that does me no good."

"They also have to know the right buttons to press to jump to hyperspace?"

Cassandra was going to murder him in his sleep when he tried these on her.

"But I've heard that's because they're labeled," Mara said, still fakely innocent. "I much prefer pilots who do it by instinct. Corellians push it too hard and fast."

This was terrible, Mara.

"Well that's Corellians," Face pointed out. "Other pilots have a much lighter and defter touch."

Murdered in his sleep.

Mara smirked. "Do they now? Do you have suggestions for other pilots I might interview?"

Totally murdered in his sleep.

"I've heard at Lorrdian pilots perform well, and ones from Pantolomin."

Shameless or not, there might have been a hint of blush around his ears.

Mara burst into a gigglefit. "Really," she said. "You've heard that? I'm not sure talking to yourself counts."
