Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were tables and chairs set up all around the lawn. Some were in the sun, where folks could work on their tan while they ate, and some were in the shade where folks could stay cool and non-crispy.

All of the tables had some blue and gold glitter scattered across them, because there was always enough to go around. This school certainly was blesesed in all the right ways.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Not allbad. Merely different. Your courtships for one are so much more common."

BECAUSE YOU ALL DIED AT, LIKE, THIRTY. THAT WAS A THING, RIGHT?

IT WAS IF YOU WERE A DISNEY PARENT.

"I wouldn't know," Elsa replied, with a faint smile. "Courtships back home are somewhat more elaborate than the ones here, too. Do you mind if I ask how they differ from what you're used to?"
dwarvenswagger: (talking at you)

WELL.

"Dwarves only once," he replied. "And some not at all. Too absorbed in our crafts."

Elsa took a moment to ponder that. As somebody who had been courted, such as it was, all of once in her life, and who had only ever known a handful of people right up until coming to the island, she was probably going to have to take Thorin's word for it.

"I suppose if it's a system that works for you..." She considered that a moment more, and then nodded. "I have to confess, I don't have much experience with any of it. Beyond Barry, I mean, and even he's well aware that he's got to be second priority to Arendelle."

There had been a whole messy thing about it, at one point. That had been fun.
dwarvenswagger: (the hell is that?)

Look, Tolkien never thought about how that whole thing would sustain an entire race. Because his focus was on elves.

"You'll be queen," he replied, like that made perfect sense. "Of course."

Maybe dwarven women actually gave birth to litters.

"I'll be queen," Elsa agreed. "And that's... less than a year away, now. Whatever else happens here, Arendelle is always going to come first. Just as I imagine returning to your own people is to you."

One can only hope. And, at the same time, wince.

"It is our lot in life," Thorin agreed. "Hopefully the way home for me will open soon."

"I'll continue hoping for the best for you," Elsa decided. "And I'll keep an eye open for some way to help you return, myself. I can't promise having any luck, but the more people who are trying, the better?"
dwarvenswagger: (smile more)

Just as long as it didn't end with a dragon, yes.

"Then you have my thanks."

"It's the least I can do," Elsa replied, smiling and nodding her head a little.

Hopefully it wouldn't end with a dragon, anyway. Smaug probably wouldn't do well on the island, and the best that Elsa could dredge up was a giant snowman, or maybe some trolls.

As long as they weren't Tolkien trolls. They were the worst.

Thorin nodded, looking out at the crowd of people. "I must wonder how this place attracts so many."

"For some, I imagine it's the promise of something different, more accepting than the place they came from before," Elsa mused, looking out over the people as well. "I've known a few people who viewed the island as a sort of sanctuary."

A pause.

"And several who had no idea what they were doing here in the first place. And some who simply didn't know what they were getting themselves into when they arrived here."

That earned her a laugh. Wasn't she proud? "Ah, the last one seems the most likely."

[identity profile] iceolatedqueen.livejournal.com 2015-08-29 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
She actually was, a little. Elsa didn't often make people laugh.

"I don't think I ever have met somebody who knew what they were getting themselves into when they came here," she noted, a bit impishly. "If nothing else, watching their faces is always interesting the first day it rains something odd, or we all get hats we can't quite be rid of."
dwarvenswagger: (guuurrrrrl)

[personal profile] dwarvenswagger 2015-08-29 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"I have yet to get a hat," Thorin admitted. "Though the weekend I was female wasn't exactly the best."

"And I'd care not to spend another several days as a boy," Elsa replied. "Even though the mayhem is often temporary, sometimes it's somewhat more unsettling than others, I'll give you that."

[identity profile] iceolatedqueen.livejournal.com 2015-08-29 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hope for the best, and take whatever we can with a grain of salt," Elsa agreed. "There's not much else to do when it comes to the whims of the island."
dwarvenswagger: (side eyeing you)

"Other than attempt an escape," he replied, tone teasing.

Re: General Mingling [Fall 2015]

[identity profile] iceolatedqueen.livejournal.com 2015-08-29 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"And in an event like that, I might even consider opening Arendelle's gates to Fandom refugees," Elsa decided. "There would be plenty of room."

Because... nobody ever really went there. Ever.

For reasons.

"It almost makes me wonder why the island doesn't have a practiced escape plan. For invasions, natural disasters, or those weekends when everybody else has turned into younger or crazier versions of themselves."

Which, really, was essentially a combination of the first two things, around here.

"Crazier?" If that was AU weekend, it was safe to say Thorin needed to be away for it. Wanna be a crazy MI-5 agent or a crazy serial killer?

Re: General Mingling [Fall 2015]

[identity profile] iceolatedqueen.livejournal.com 2015-08-29 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Neither of those things could possibly end well.

Good job with all of the AU crazy, Thorin. Good job.

"There was one weekend where everything went... sort of greyscale, and people started talking to themselves in the rain," Elsa explained. "Odd things like that have happened at least a few times since I first came here."
dwarvenswagger: (hmmm)

It wasn't his fault! It was the fact that he always looked moderately murderous. All those sharp features.

"That doesn't make sense at all." OH SHUT UP, THORIN. YOU'D BE ALL ABOUT THE NOIR.

Re: General Mingling [Fall 2015]

[identity profile] iceolatedqueen.livejournal.com 2015-08-29 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Fair enough. He probably could put somebody's eye out with that nose, after all.

"Well, sense rarely has anything to do with the island's whims," Elsa pointed out. "It still happened, all the same."

Elsa had been a lounge singer for a shady club owner. An experience she'd never care to repeat.

Like a shark fin on his face. Oh, Thorin.

"At least we are all in this madness together."
