BWI Airport, Portalocity Lounge

It was That Time Of Year again. At BWI airport, they knew well that this was not the kind of thing you wanted to be asking questions about. So when a teenage boy showed up wearing a ratty long red-and-black coat, an expression that blazed hell and a large series of bleeding scratches on his face, well, they didn't ask. About anything.

Dante didn't mind. It meant he could walk into the nice warm Portalocity lounge and crash on one of the benches. Had to sleep off the day he'd had... yesterday? Was it yesterday now? Who cared.

By the time he jerked back awake about an hour later, the scratches had vanished and his expression had gone sleepy, though the ratty coat remained. He sat up, rubbing at his eyes. Guess he wasn't alone anymore, huh? Fine, whatever. "Who knew the public still showed up for transport?"

The sight of the tiny redhead with seven huge suitcases on one arm might be a little alarming to some travelers, but April was steady enough on her feet as she approached the Portalocity lounge that the rest of the people in the waiting area had nothing to worry about.

Unspoken rules about personal space in an airport lounge aside, she plunked down next to the first person she saw and swiftly began arranging her luggage under the chairs. "Hi, I'm April!" she said brightly, extending her free hand as soon as she had one to spare. "Is this where we meet for the school bus?"

"That's what somebody's told me," Frank said, refilling his glass. "But I prefer to think of it as a place where I can drink until the bus gets here."

"I thought you weren't allowed to have liquids in an airport," April commented. Although from the amused look on her face, she wasn't about to rat Frank out to anyone. "Did you bring that from home?"

If so, she was impressed.

"Of course I did. I'm underaged, I'm not going to be able to buy liquor in an airport," Frank said. "And you only have to worry about liquids when crossing through security, which I most certainly did not do."

"Aha." Well, okay then. "You're not worried that when we get there you'll get in trouble?"

Frank might not know this, but he was speaking to someone who was very used to getting in trouble.

"Of course not! The portal didn't even have a security checkpoint," Frank said. "I could have ridden a horse covered in knives through that thing without making a fuss."

"That would be pretty cool," April said, tilting her head as she pictured that. "Knives facing out, you mean?"

She didn't want to hurt the hypothetical horsey!

"Depends on the kind of horse, I'd imagine," Frank mused before finishing off his drink.

April gave that some thought. "I just can't imagine it being very intimidating with the knives facing in."

"If it were some kind of a demon horse showing how tough it is, maybe," Frank said, refilling his glass. "But I never claimed to be a horse designer."

"That's fair," April said with a shrug. "If you were a horse designer, I'd have a lot of questions for you. Like why do horses smell so bad? I mean, they're great to look at, but the smell seems unjustified. And then you'd have to answer and everyone here would know you as the horse guy and it would be a tough first day for everyone. Probably better this way."

"If I can be completely honest, I have no idea what a horse smells like and I'm in no rush to find out due to a complete lack of interest in animals," Frank said. "Drink?" He'd spaced on on the horse talk, so it was only polite to offer.

She wouldn't have asked, but since he offered... "Okay," April agreed after a moment's pause. "What is it exactly?"

Cards on the table, April was the kind of dorky fourteen-year-old who was going to sniff whatever he offered her.

Thanks to Frank, Eggsy was a drink or two in already. Which is why he was at the point where the whole luggage thing was only causing a little frown. "'lo, April."

"Hiya," she chirped. "Nice to meet you. Did you have a good trip in?"

Yes, she was just going to try to make conversation with the sleepy-looking guy until he explicitly told her not to. And possibly still after that.

Sleep and tipsy now. It was a good place for him to be.

"I'm still awake for all that's worth," Eggsy replied. Then eyed her because she was way more chipper than anyone else there.

Get used to it, Eggsy.

"That's good," she said. "Missing the bus to school would be a pretty bad first day. Unless you'd rather be sleeping?"

Re: Wait for the Shuttle

"I'd be happy with a nap," Eggsy replied. "Long flight, yeah."

"Tell me about it. I don't fly a lot, but sitting still always makes time go slower," April sympathized. "If you want, you can nap and I'll wake you up when the bus gets here! I think I have a pillow in my stuff somewhere..."

"Oh yeah." Guess who had been planning to just sleep whenever she felt like it! Good thought, Eggsy. "Hopefully they'll let us relax when we get there. I bet it'll be all getting-to-know-you games and then unpacking time."

A little wrinkle of her nose communicated how April felt about getting-to-know-you games.

He just didn't want to sleep the entire weekend. That would suck.

"Me too." It was way better to get to know someone through actual organic interactions! "I hope there's somewhere we can hide out until it's over."

"Gotta be somewhere they can't force that shit on you." He could just continue to nap on the bus.

"Want to hide out with me?" she suggested. Her face was all mischief. This was a very mischievous thing she was suggesting, Eggsy!
