Sexual Safety [period 2, Friday]

"Good morning!" Irene was dressed rather differently than usual today -- she'd pulled her hair up into a high ponytail, and was wearing a pair of sleek yoga leggings. This probably had something to do, if you were a guessing sort of student, with the ten or so yoga mats laid out on the floor. There were comfy sweats and a dressing screen at the back of the room as well, for anyone who hadn't had the foresight to somehow know to wear flexible clothes to class.

"One of the most embarrassing things to deal with," Irene said, "is a sexual injury. Let me say first and foremost that if you aren't sure if something will fit somewhere, or if it will be easily extracted once it is in, don't put it in there. But, if you do anyway, don't be too afraid to go to the hospital and to be honest with your medical professionals -- they've seen it all, and they need to know what happened in order to help."

She clapped her hands together briskly, continuing, "However, if you're not being adventurous with your orifices -- and again, if you want to, please do some Googling first so as to avoid totally preventable things -- there's still always the risk of hurting yourself through the sheer act of sex. It's often like working out, or wrestling -- sex can be, obviously, very physical. I always recommend stretching beforehand, though of course that can be a bit of a moodkiller -- 'Hold on, luv, I have to stretch out my hamstrings before you bend me over,' and so on. So a good way to ensure that you won't pull anything is to stretch in advance if you know or predict you might be getting laid."

She gestured to a table where she'd put together some small handouts with varying poses demonstrated. "I'm a big fan of yoga in general -- it helps the mind as well as the body -- but from a purely physiological standpoint, yoga and pilates have been demonstrated to help with sex and flexibility, and the meeting of the two."

She plucked up a book from the same table, smiling. "Try out the poses in the handout and see what feels good and what feels tight, and stretch accordingly. Then flip through this, and see what I mean about how stretching beforehand is not only a good idea, but a huge part of sex since pretty much forever."

Hanna giggled, remembering the abandoned amusement park in Berlin, trying to imagine a carnival in that place. "What are the - Biological Impossibilities?" Hanna asked, being careful with her pronunciation.

Just to test the flexibility, she did the splits, not quite achieving the bendiness of Kathy.

"It's the modern an' polite way of saying 'freakshow,'" Ada said bluntly, checking her handout again and trying the one that looked like a snake or a statue of a sphinx. "Bearded ladies, conjoined twins, unicorns, giants, mermaids, that sort of thing."

Hanna tilted her head to watch Ada, then turned over to try that one, feeling her back muscles stretch. "Real giants? Or... I don't know." She curved back and asked, "They are okay with just-- being in a show, to be stared at?"

"Who cares what a bunch of strange Townies think? If they want to point and gawk, they'd do so anyway, and at least this way we're making 'em pay for it," Ada said, shrugging. "The big draw of our carnival is the Alabama Mermaid, and she loves meeting new people. Any Townie gets nasty with Marti sees the business-end of Uncle's boot real fast."

Ada cocked her head, studying Hanna. "You haven't ever been to a carnival?"

"No," Hanna admitted, turning over to do a back head-stand. "I have been to an amusement park, after it had been closed. But, I grew up in a wilderness area. No towns. Definitely no carnivals. It sounds like fun. I don't think I would be a good barker, though."
