Face was in the Library bright and early today, and just like he'd promised Cassandra the day before, he was wearing a shirt and scrubbed of all traces of glitter as he set up a display of books that might be useful to new kids.

Given some of the titles though, they might only be useful in letting them know they should run at the next opportunity.

It had made him feel pretty. "That stuff does take a while to come off," he said.

"I am terribly surprised to hear that," said Cassandra.

She did not sound terribly surprised to hear that.

"I am not certain what you were thinking. Or if you were thinking."

Of course Face was thinking, he just happened not to think like most people.

"I was thinking that I was providing a warm welcome too new students in one of the traditional ways of this school."

"I sincerely doubt it is an actual tradition," Cassandra said. "The squirrels are known liars."

"I have worked with them myself," Cassandra said. "I was not impressed."

"You just need to get to know them." After which her opinion probably wouldn't change, since they were borderline libellous little drunks.

"Why?" Cassandra said, stopping by the counter. "Do they somehow improve? I find that unlikely."

"Well, I have no interest in doing that," Cassandra said. Yes, yes, quelle surprise.

"Have you picked up any decent books of late?" she asked, because she was done with the squirrels. "I... have finished the last series I started."

"Let me see," Face said, as if he didn't already keep a running tally of books he thought she might like. "How do you feel about changing up setting? Because I got a series that's reading like the shieldmaiden books, but the lead's a pilot doing freight runs in the lawless side of space, she has a mysterious and painful past."

Cassandra raised an eyebrow. "A pilot?" she echoed, mild confusion in her voice. "This is... like your world, then?"

"Kind of?" Face said. "A lot of the details are different, but it's closer to it than to a place like this."

Cassandra chewed on that - mentally, at least. "What is a pilot?"

"They fly ships," Face said. "In her case it's a beat-up old cargo hauler."

Well, space in general, she meant.

"That is a difficult notion to comprehend," Cassandra had to admit. "...How?"

"I'm not really sure how to explain it beyond it being a matter of the right technology," Face said. "I mean if you visited my galaxy I could show you some in action, but the details, you'd probably be better off asking Skywalker, the one teaching mechanics this session."
