Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were tables and chairs set up all around the lawn. Some were in the sun, where folks could soak up that precious vitamin D, and some were in the shade where folks could stay cool.

All of the tables had at least a little glitter on them though. It was a welcoming gesture to get glitter someplace you didn't know glitter could go!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Not exactly, but close enough," Kaylin said. "Here they're called 'the police'. So, are you from a world like this? With electricity and internets and cars and almost no magic?"

Except on the island, obviously.

"Oh thank the gods," Kaylin said. "When I arrived it seemed like I was the only one on the whole island who didn't know what it was."

She made a face. "I still don't really, so I can't explain it, but it's what makes the light work and the heat and the TeeVee thing with lights and pictures and stuff and, well... pretty much everything in this place."

"Hopefully they can explain it to you better than I can. Sorry."

Kaylin nibbled absently on something tasty from her plate. "Back home most everything runs on magic. Or you know, we use candles and stuff. Here, everything is very weird. Like the talking pony. And the random invasions and changing into things and all."

"Magic is not commonplace where I'm from." He meant the sort wizards did. Because duh. Everything else was just normal.

"Ordinary people mostly don't do magic back home," Kaylin explained. "But they do make lights and door wards and the mirrors to communicate. I couldn't explain that any more than I could explain electricity."

And she wasn't about to explain that she did magic, even if the discussion did lead her to glance down at the gold, jewel encrusted bracer peeking out from under her sleeve.
