Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were tables and chairs set up all around the lawn. Some were in the sun, where folks could soak up that precious vitamin D, and some were in the shade where folks could stay cool.

All of the tables had at least a little glitter on them though. It was a welcoming gesture to get glitter someplace you didn't know glitter could go!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Aww, Mr. Hardison's nervous?" Kathy asked. "But he seemed really nice! I'm sure he'll be fine!"

As for what to say about Raven...There were certain things that Kathy wasn't going to mention, simply because outing her friend had powers would be rude. "She's a rising senior like me, and she's from the 1950s originally. There's some time travel involved. But--oh! She's not, like, your typical kid from the 50s," she added tactfully, realizing that Mr. Hardison might be even more nervous hearing that his TA was from before the Civil Rights Movement. "She's very big into stuff like equality and feminism and stuff. She's really cool."

"He hasn't really taught before. Not in a classroom type thing." Off and on for various cons, one on one, sure. But not with a lot of people staring at him. "Oh good. Social justice? She's okay with that? She already knows about computers and stuff?" Hardison would be hugely relieved if that was the case. "She'll help if he gets frazzled? He goes off on tangents about why you shouldn't do stuff when people tease him too hard. And he is really nice, the coolest guy I know. Except maybe Eliot." Parker beamed at the chance to brag on him. Both hims. "And the smartest. He just gets high-strung."

Awww! Ms. Parker was so clearly into her guys and it was so cute!

"I'm not sure how much she knows about computers, but she's definitely into social justice." Mutant rights fit handily under than general umbrella, yes. "I know he older brother is some kind of genius, too? So she's probably used to dealing with those types. I can talk to her if you want? Or introduce you two? Or something?"

If Ms. Parker wanted her help in getting Mr. Hardison settled, Kathy was only too happy to oblige.

"That would be great," Parker agreed, looking relieved. "He's mostly afraid the students won't listen to him or something. I told him I'd show up and give them Detentions if he wanted, but I think he'd like it if it didn't get to that point."

"If you show up and give people detention for not listening to him, won't that just undermine his authority even more?" Kathy asked. "It'll look like he needs you to fight his battles for him, won't it?"

Parker was giving Kathy an uncomprehending look. "Why is that bad? I taze anyone who threatens him."

She really wasn't seeing the difference here.

Right. This was Ms. Parker. Kathy was also filing the taser thing away for future reference.

"Well, he doesn't care about earning the respect of the people you normally taze, right? Look at it this way," she said, trying to figure out a scenario Parker would understand. "Who do you respect more? The person who talks a big game but leaves the hard stuff to someone else, or the person who actually does it?"

"No," Parker admitted. "Or else he'd... uh, never mind." You know, trash their bank accounts and send them 5,000 porn magazines.

"Ohhhhhhhh." Ah. Damnit. "Okay, so. He has to do it himself... but his TA can help, right? You'll tell her? Please?"

"I'll talk to her," Kathy promised. "And I'm sure Mr. Hardison won't have a problem. With Raven or the class or whatever. I mean, from the sound of it, everyone will be too busy fighting off...whatever it was the caused the apocalypse. I'm sure he'll be great."

"I think so. And Eliot thinks so. But he could use the reassurance of someone else on his side there, I guess?" Parker looked dubious. "...also I am glad you are still our TA. This summer class is going to be fun."

"I wouldn't miss it!" Kathy said, bouncing a bit. "Besides, Mr. Spencer seemed concerned that I was gonna work myself gray over the summer. Now he knows there's at least one hour a week I'm out having fun in the woods."
