Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were tables and chairs set up all around the lawn. Some were in the sun, where folks could soak up that precious vitamin D, and some were in the shade where folks could stay cool.

All of the tables had at least a little glitter on them though. It was a welcoming gesture to get glitter someplace you didn't know glitter could go!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Ringo studied the spread on the table, then giggled. "I think there might be a few too many for that to be a good idea," she whispered back in the same strained manner.

That only got more giggling out of Alluka.

"We could do more than one trip," she suggested.

Those giggles escalated to outright laughter. "But," Ringo objected, trying to catch her breath, "where would we be keeping them all?"

"In our tummies!"

That was the only place for them!

"I don't think," Ringo said, still laughing, "that I can eat my half of them..." Not without getting sick, anyway.

Oh. Oh, that was a problem.

She looked at her bunny, but her bunny wouldn't be able to eat them, so that was no help.

"I guess we can share with others," Alluka said, after a moment.

"Now there's a good idea!" Ringo agreed. "We can load up some big plates and go around offering them to people!"

It would also be a fun way to meet people!

Alluka... hadn't even thought of that! She'd just thought they'd leave them on the table!

"Yes!" She bounced. "And, and that way if we want one, we can have one and no one will know because of our big plates."

This was probably going to wind up with strawberries on the ground. But it was a good idea.

"Besides," Ringo said, trying to look very serious, "people will just think that it is fair payment for our delivery services."

Right? Right!

That sounded like--

"Now we have jobs?!"

She'd never had one of those before!

"Well, they're not exactly official," Ringo admitted. "But we decided to do it!"

"Or, well, we could decide to do it." Shouldn't rush into make decisions for Alluka, after all.

Why not? Everyone else made decisions for her. She was used to that, really.

"Are there reasons we shouldn't?" she asked, confused at the qualifier.

"I don't think so," Ringo answered. "But it means it's not... official?" So not quite the same thing as a regular job.

"I don't understand," she admitted.

This was terribly confusing.

Definitely, definitely sheltered.

Ringo chewed on her lip, trying to figure out how to explain it. "When someone else has a job for you, it's... official. They will pay you to do it. But if you decide to do the job yourself, it's... not official?" That was kind of right... She thought.

Alluka mulled over this carefully.

Then beamed.

"Then, if I give you strawberries, it will make your job official! And if you give me strawberries, it will make my job official!"

Ringo laughed. "Sure, why not?" That wasn't exactly how it went, but it wasn't a bad idea, really.

"Yay!"

Alluka looked around for a plate, then paused.

"Should we eat ours first?" she asked hopefully.

She was getting kinda hungry.

"Well, we can certainly get started," Ringo answered. "But we don't have to eat all of the ones we want now. We can save some for later, too!'

Ringo was so smart!

"They won't go bad?"

Ringo picked up one of the strawberries to study it. "Not for a couple of days, at least," she answered after a moment. And then held out the strawberry she'd been looking at to Alluka.

"And in a few days we'll be done!"

Or she'd have gotten bored of the job. Either or.

She beamed and took the strawberry. "Thank you!"

"Or sick of strawberries," Ringo laughed, grabbing one for her self.

She bit into it, teeth cutting through the bitterness into the chocolate to the perfectly ripe strawberry underneath. A long, happy sigh escaped her as she closed her eyes and savored the flavor.

Best idea ever.
