Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were tables and chairs set up all around the lawn. Some were in the sun, where folks could soak up that precious vitamin D, and some were in the shade where folks could stay cool.

All of the tables had at least a little glitter on them though. It was a welcoming gesture to get glitter someplace you didn't know glitter could go!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"There's lots to pick from," she agreed happily. "I haven't decided what to eat yet."

Mostly because she'd been too busy pondering the glitter, but shush.

"The little meat patties on bread are very good," Edward said, pointing them out. "And the cheese. And the chocolate."

She giggled, following his pointing with her gaze.

"You like chocolate?"

"Can't get it that easily where I'm from," Edward said, shrugging. "Might as well indulge while I'm here."

"You're leaving?"

That was sad! They'd only just met!

Edward blinked. "No," he said, after a bit, "But next year's my last year as a student here."

Alluka looked puzzled. "You can only be a student for so long?"

No one had told her that. Did that mean she'd have to leave too?

"No one told you that?" Edward asked. "It's true. There's four years, and you wind up in one depending on what age you were. Freshman's fourteen and by eighteen and senior you've got to clear out."

Oh! She bounced.

"I'm fourteen!" Alluka announced, pleased. "So I get to stay here a really long time!"

"Four whole years," Edward said, his grin dimming to a friendlier smile that was a bit less on the ne'er-do-well side. "That's quite a bit of time."

The nuances of Edward's smile were going completely over her head.

"Not as long as forever though!" And wasn't there a--oh! "I'm Alluka," she added, a bit sheepishly.

She was bad at introductions.

"And I'm Edward," Edward said, giving a bit of a mock bow. "Rising senior with only one year left to thrive here. So I'm going to eat every scrap of chocolate I can lay my hands on."

"You're going to eat all of it?!"

But, but what about sharing? What if she wanted chocolate? Edward!

"Most," he said, after pretending to think about it. "I'll share if you ask nice."

"Oh, pleaaase," she said immediately, "please may I have some too?"

Please, please, please?

"I suppose that's nice enough," Edward sighed. "All right. Stay here for a moment, I'll be back."

"Okaaay," she said, a bit sulky because she had to stay behind, but Alluka was used to that, so she waited patiently for him anyway.

Edward popped 'round to one of the tables, and was back within moments, wielding two large pieces of chocolate.

"I hope this is the start of a fruitful sharing relationship," he said solemnly, offering her one.

"Yay chocolate!" She took her piece and beamed at him. "Thank you! And yes!"

A beat.

"I've never had a sharing relationship before."

"First time for everything 'round here," Edward said solemnly. "I hope it's good for you, too."

No one had ever said that before to her.

She didn't really know what to do about it.

So instead she took a bite of the chocolate and after she'd swallowed it, giggled. "It's good chocolate."
