Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The last picnic for new arrivals had involved a bonfire, but there was no need for artificial warmth today. The weather outside was sunny, and just breezy enough that no one would roast, hopefully. There were tables and chairs arranged around the lawn, along with a long table of food, drinks, and desserts for anyone who stopped by.

There were stacks of nametags for people to label themselves with, and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything in order, it was time to welcome some new people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Oh, Dipper's my brother," Mabel explained, looking around the crowd. "He's pretty easy to pick out, you know? You just have to find the dorky looking guy with the little noodle arms and his nose always in this weird book he likes? And that's him."

But seriously, his arms were really super noodly.

"Oh," Vider said. "Well, at least you have someone here with you! That's nice. Do you have any luggage, or are we going to need to go shopping?"

"I definitely need to go shopping," Mabel decreed. "I have some money, a pig, and a bag with a grappling hook and a change of clothes in it. Everything else is still sort of at the top of the really weird hole I fell into to get here."

The not-so-bottomless bottomless pit. That one.

"Okay," Vider said, "then we're going shopping! I also have some money--the government gives me a living allowance I never know what to do with all of--so we should be okay."

"Oh, really? That's great, thank you! Where is there to shop around here? There's a town, right? I haven't even really been into town, yet!"

... She probably had to put Waddles in her room before going to try on clothes or something, granted.

"There is a town," Vider confirmed. "It's not very big, but it has a clothing store and somewhere to get toiletries and things. And for anything we can't find there, there's always the--" not Interweave. What did they call it here? Rag. "Internet." That was it.

"If you have to resort to going on the internet to buy something, you're just not trying hard enough to be creative with what you can get," Mabel decided, grinning. "But then, I guess in a small down that happens to be an island, that's not really avoidable either, huh?"

Beware, though, once Mabel started to get creative.

"Sometimes you just have to give in and order it," Vider confirmed. "But the shops here have a pretty varied selection." Whether you needed a jerkin or jeans, they had you covered. "Which makes sense, what with the students coming from so many different places...and time periods."

"Time travel, too?" Oh, Dipper was going to love this! "It's been years since I've done that. This place has everything!"

Mabel was kind of in awe. And would probably take pretty much anything said about this place at face value. She had arrived her via bottomless pit by way of Gravity Falls, after all.

This boded well. Vider relaxed a little. "It really does. Sometimes odd things happen here--like, you might be a boy for a few days. Or an animal. Or it might rain pudding. But everything gets set right eventually."

"The only time I have ever been a boy was that one time my brother and I accidentally switched bodies," Mabel replied, sticking out her tongue a bit at the memory. "But pudding rain? Really? That... sounds..."

She grinned and bounced on her toes a little.

"Awesome! Does it do that a lot? What kind of pudding? Do people put out pudding catchers to collect the pudding so that they can just eat pudding all of the time? Is it quality pudding, or like a Jello powder mix?!"

These were the important questions, right here.

"I--that was hypothetical," Vider said once she had finished processing the onslaught. "But probably yes to all of those. I know that when it rained glitter the Student Council collected it to use later." She swept a hand toward--well, everything that had happened as a result of that decision.

"It's so glorious," Mabel whispered, holding Waddles a little closer, eyes going wide as she looked around the sparkly, sparkly picnic. And then she reached a very important decision.

"I'm going to like it here."
