Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The last picnic for new arrivals had involved a bonfire, but there was no need for artificial warmth today. The weather outside was sunny, and just breezy enough that no one would roast, hopefully. There were tables and chairs arranged around the lawn, along with a long table of food, drinks, and desserts for anyone who stopped by.

There were stacks of nametags for people to label themselves with, and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything in order, it was time to welcome some new people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Well, he was going to go with 'because you're of the race of men and he the race of dwarves' but sure. Why not?

"I have a sister." Which totally gave him more experience with females than most dwarves just based on statistics.

Blue was pretty sure 'dwarf' was considered offensive, Thorin, but who was she to police what you called yourself?

"Oh," Blue said. "I don't have any brothers." Or other male influences at all.

It wasn't when he was literally a dwarf. Like, the actual race. Damn it, Blue. Don't introduce him to Tumblr, his poor head would explode.

"You're not missing out on much. I have one of those as well."

Awww, he'd regret that in about twenty years.

"Your poor sister," Blue said. She kind of meant it. "Maybe we can get a screen or something. Or a curtain?"

"That would suffice," Thorin replied with a nod. He could probably rig something up before they had need of sleep.

He looked awkward for a moment as he realized he hadn't properly introduced himself. "Thorin, son of Thrain. At your service."

"Blue Sargent," Blue said, a little bemused, "Daughter of Maura. At...yours...? Not that I'm going to do your laundry or anything." She just wanted to make that clear.

They were going to have to get him GPS. "I could help?" Blue offered. "I'm pretty crafty."

She definitely didn't want him to get fleeced, so, "Yeah, I'd better tag along." Also it would keep him from wandering into the preserve and never being found again. Then she remembered something that had been bugging her. "I noticed that your surname got left off the list somehow."

"Of course," Blue muttered under her breath. Of course he was that kind of rich European. He probably even had a title. Well, as long as he wasn't insisting she use it. "Silly question," she said out loud. "Forget I asked."
