Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The last picnic for new arrivals had involved a bonfire, but there was no need for artificial warmth today. The weather outside was sunny, and just breezy enough that no one would roast, hopefully. There were tables and chairs arranged around the lawn, along with a long table of food, drinks, and desserts for anyone who stopped by.

There were stacks of nametags for people to label themselves with, and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything in order, it was time to welcome some new people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"What sort of hole?" Lottie asked immediately, then kicked herself -- not literally -- for the reaction. She was done with mysteries. Mysteries were for children, and she was a cool teenager, now. "I mean. Whatever."

Oooo. Good cover.

"It was a bottomless pit," Dipper said frowning and not knowing how to respond to that 'whatever' part. "Which by definition really isn't bottomless but instead it tend to spit you out about twenty minutes later back where you started but instead it sent us here. Where I'm apparently registered to go to school. Very weird."

"I was supposed to go to France," Lottie offered. "But apparently France is in America, today."

"Wait. Like seriously this is France and it moved to America?" Dipper asked cautiously. "Because that's seriously weird. There must have been some huge tectonic movements for that to happen."

Lottie looked up at the very French castle-turned-school. "Yup," she said. "There's machinery under the island that makes it move. Or something." Because she definitely wasn't really wanting to investigate that or anything. "It's not that weird."

When you helped reintegrate a fish-man into society when you were about seven, your scale of weird shifted a little.

"You don't find an entire country being moved across an ocean a tad bit weird?" Dipper asked.

C'mon Lottie. Mabel's first kiss was a merman stuck in the town pool. Dipper was responsible for sending the guy back to the ocean.

France in America? Weird.

"I'm pretty sure it's just the island," Lottie said. "If it was all of France, then we'd still be in France, wouldn't we? Instead of America."

They'd have to share weird stories from home at some point. One of Lottie's best friends had been nearly drowned by a jealous selkie, after all. And then there was the walnut.

"Uh. Sure."

Dipper didn't really follow that logic but he wasn't going to question it.

There would be plenty of time to tell stories to Lottie about gnomes, ghosts, sentient candy monsters and triangles but for now there were more important matters.

"Listen. I've shared a room with my sister before so if you need like any privacy let me know. We can put up a divider with bedsheets or something."

"Maybe," Lottie said. "I've never shared with a boy, before. I think I'm supposed to tell you I'll punch your lights out if you peep."

"Fair enough, he agreed holding up his hands. "No peeping or I get my lights punched out. And for my sake don't leave any underthings lying around."

He'd totally get weird about it.

Lottie chuckled a little evilly. "Oh don't worry. I know how you lads get about a lady's underthings."

She'd once arranged to meet her guy friends in the lingerie department to take advantage of just that reaction, in fact. Well, and because saying she was worried about bras was her excuse for being nasty to her mum's new live-in boyfriend and escape grounding.

Dipper was now wary. Very wary of his roommate.

As well he should be.

His eyes widened and his eyebrows went up.

"Good! Well. Glad we know this. Looks like we can totally get along well with no issues."

Dipper was totally living in fear of Lottie now.

There were a number of boys back in Tackleford who would tell him this was wise.

"Definitely. Oh, I might have my mum send me my dog, at some point."

This had literally just occurred to her. If she was in America instead of France than that was WAY too far to be away from Pepper for any length of time. What if he got lonely? What if Sarah started taking him to wild college parties and corrupted his youthful sensibilities?

One cannot corrupt a dog. That would be just wrong.

"Fine by me," Dipper said nodding in agreement. At this point he'd probably agree to anything Lottie said. "Your dog wouldn't have a problem with a pig at all, would it?"

Waddles often stopped by for visits.

"You have a pet pig?"

Why, Dipper, you just became almost somewhat interesting!

"Well my sister does," Dipper replied. "I helped her get it one day back when we were staying at my Great Uncle's."

It also involved time travel and lost love. An epic tale of the ages.

Oh, and a pig.

Ooo, Lottie had a story like that! Only the lost love was parental and there was an enormous train accident. "Does your Great Uncle run a pig farm, perhaps?"

"No he runs a tourist trap that scams people out of their well earned money," Dipper said shaking his head. "He's a thief but lovable. Mostly lovable."

"A loveable rogue!" Lottie crowed. "You musta had great adventures!"

"We did," Dipper said, his smiled drooping a little. "He... he was a lot of fun. For the most part."

Except for the whole thing where he was building a portal which could have destroyed reality.

Eh. Details.

"Oooo," Lottie said. "The story just took a well dark turn, didn't it."
