Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The last picnic for new arrivals had involved a bonfire, but there was no need for artificial warmth today. The weather outside was sunny, and just breezy enough that no one would roast, hopefully. There were tables and chairs arranged around the lawn, along with a long table of food, drinks, and desserts for anyone who stopped by.

There were stacks of nametags for people to label themselves with, and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything in order, it was time to welcome some new people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

She all but bounced around to get a proper look at the person speaking to her.

And beamed at him.

"You are!" Alluka said, then fidgeted a little. "Are you my roommate? I've never had one before, have you?"

"I've slept in the same room as my little brother on trips and stuff." Why was he giving her a real answer? Like, he could have easily made something better up, but nope.

This was so surreal.

"I'm Jesse. Hey."

"Hi," she said, suddenly a little shy. But just a little. It was still strange to have people talking to her, even though Anders and Jono were super nice. "Is it, is it going to be okay sharing with me?"

"It'll be fine." If he'd been back in Albuquerque, that answer might have been different. But here, without anyone to really impress -- at least, no one he was trying to impress yet -- Jesse actually smiled at her.

She just seemed really, really young, was the thing. "Does he have a name?" he added, nodding to the bunny.

She beamed back at him, reassured by his manner.

"Yes," Alluka admitted, hugging her bunny a little tighter to her chest. "But it's a secret."

"Okay, well, if you wanna tell me sometime, I'm all ears," Jesse assured her. God, she almost reminded him of Jake -- which he wouldn't be sharing, since Jake would be starting kindergarten in the fall, and that might not be especially flattering to tell a girl he just met. "Where're you from, Alluka?"

That was, however, pretty close to the age she'd been when she'd been locked away, so... yeah.

"From my room," she admitted, since that was... that was about all the reference she had, really. "But I didn't leave it! I was good! The swirly thing brought me here!"

So she couldn't get in trouble for that, right?
