Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The last picnic for new arrivals had involved a bonfire, but there was no need for artificial warmth today. The weather outside was sunny, and just breezy enough that no one would roast, hopefully. There were tables and chairs arranged around the lawn, along with a long table of food, drinks, and desserts for anyone who stopped by.

There were stacks of nametags for people to label themselves with, and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything in order, it was time to welcome some new people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"You're Ada!" Yes, she just said that, Rapunzel -- but hey, sometimes your excitement was too big to contain, and you had to exclaim things, okay? "Oh my gosh, hi. I'm Rapunzel, yes. Welcome to Fandom! Was the ride here okay?"

She remembered how lost and strange she'd felt in that...airport place, a year ago. It could be really disorienting.

"I guess. That car could use a tune-up, though," she said, shrugging her shoulders. That was... a lot of hair. "So you're supposed to be my sister, then? I got a load of cousins, but no siblings."

"Me neither!" Rapunzel told her cheerfully. "I don't even have cousins, honestly. Totally an only child. But that's okay, 'cause they assign you a sibling when you get here. So I even have a big sister from when I started here last year -- her name's Raven, she's super-nice -- and basically the whole point of the program is to help you get, um, acclimated to Fandom."

Breathe, Rapunzel.

"It can, um, take a little doing. The acclimating, I mean. Where're you from?"

"The carnival," Ada said, "So, a bit of everywhere. Arizona more than most places, I guess."

"That's one of the other states, right?" Rapunzel asked hesitantly, a little sheepish. "Sorry. I'm from -- not here, so my geography's not great. But carnivals are fun!"

Except when they tried to murder you, but she thought that might be rude to bring up.

"Yeah. If you turn your right hand so your thumb is facing down, it's kinda shaped like the country, see?" she said, demonstrating. "So, Arizona is like, here, between your two knuckles on your pointer finger."

"I'm crap at geography too," Ada winked. "Where are you from?"
