School Auditorium: MSND rehearsal (4-7 PM FHT)

There are snacks and assorted beverages on a table to the side, and the house lights are up.

The stage lighting is still a little beyond Rory, so the simple overhead fluorescents will have to do for the day.

And by the door, there's a sign-in sheet.

Actors? Your stage awaits.

"If the person in the role is sick or anything, the understudy steps up," Rory said. "Like, for instance, since Anakin's not around for a little while, Lana is his understudy and she'll probably be asked if she wants to take over the role."

So what do we do if we're doing the understudy thing, but we have a 'real' role to cover too?

"I think it's set up so that you'll never be in a scene with yourself, except at the end when you'd have time to change," Rory replied. "But in a pinch, Cordy or I can jump in and cover someone's part, I guess."

"Wait. Take over the role? What?" Lana looks at Rory a little wide-eyed.

"Unless you don't want to," Rory said gently. "It's not a very big part, really. It's the part of Snout, who plays the Wall in the Pyramus and Thisbe thing. Not a ton of dialogue, and mostly just standing there."

"Oh, um... okay, I guess," Lana says hesitantly. If Shep hadn't been standing right there her answer might have been different, but she wasn't going to act like a wimp in front of him. Especially not after the after-audition melt-down she had.

"Um... sure. They're both really easy parts anyway, right?"

Lana takes a deep breath. "Okay then. I guess I'm Snout and cobweb." She smiles at Rory - or at least manages a pretty good facsimile of a smile.

Yes, she'd wanted out of it. But not so someone else could be Titania!
