Advanced Journalism (Wednesday, March 1, 3rd period)

"Good morning," Rita said, barely glancing up. "Today is a free study period. Your midterm is the Tuesday after next. I suggest you use this hour to go over your notes and ask any questions you may have."

"Hellooooooo," Rita cooed. "You are just precious, yes you are."

John tries to flap his wings and fly but he's still tired and his wings are wee so he kind of flops across Professor Skeeter's desk and looks pitiful.

He chirps forlornly.

"You seem sad, widdle birdie," Rita said woefully

John chirps again and flutters his wings at her. He wants to either have big wings again or he wants to be a real boy.

He hopes Professor Skeeter understands.

"Oh, are your wings bothering you?" Rita asked. So she waved her wand and John was wingless.

Now, John just looks like a fruitcake. He peers up at Professor Skeeter and quirks a Puffin brow.

"OH MY GOD HE'S LIKE ME!" Rory said, looking around for John's wings.

John hopes Rory's successful in finding his wings because a bird without wings is just kinda...dumb. He's just snail only with feathers and no slimey substances and no shell.

Rory found no wings. Woe.

"Woe," she said.

John says 'woe.' But it comes out as a damn chirp.

Damn bird!

Well, John still has feet so he proceeds to scratch at all the papers on Professor Skeeter's desk, putting hole and tears in them.

Rita rolled her eyes. "All right, not so cute anymore."

She waved her wand and changed him back.

John kneeling on top of Professor Skeeter's desk.

When he realizes he's him again, he smiles at Professor Skeeter. "You totally thought I was cute."

"You were! You were some kind of wee sleepy birdie!" Rory said.

"Did you get pictures?" John asks, hopping off the desk.

"Yup. I didn't send them to Aeryn, yet, though," she said brightly. "Happy for you, by the way."

John's face falls. "Yeah, right. Happy. Right. Thanks."

Rory raised an eyebrow.

"What, I thought the coming back thing was good?"

"It is," John says and shrugs. "The reunion...left a lot to be desired. I dunno. Something's wrong."

Rory nodded. "I owe you for talking to me the other night, so if you need anything...." She shrugged.

"Thanks," he says. "We...I don't even know if we're speaking right now. She left mad this morning. So...yeah."

"Eep," Rory said, wincing.

"Yeah," John agrees. "She was going to see if she could stay. If she's staying, I guess she'll be in the dorms. Just...not my room."

"It's good she's back, though. I mean, you guys'll work it out. It's...it's you guys," Rory shrugged.

"I hope so," John mumbles before shaking his head. "Sorry to mope."

"You? Are so very allowed," Rory said seriously. "And I'm sorry if I seem, like, callous or anything for being so upbeat. I'm just...if she came back, maybe...other people...will too, you know? And also I missed her."

Rory glanced over at Rita, who, by all appearances, was reading her paper again.
